Low Battery Voltage?

You said in another thread that you haven't driven the X5 in several days. Crazy behavior can often be low battery voltage. The Battery Tender's are really a good thing to have if your car is going to sit for several days.

Oh yeah, that's what I do! Sometimes it surprises me what works. But then again, sometimes I get frustrated when it won't take something that I think SHOULD work.

+1 the 330 ZHP seems like a good choice.

Plus I think you will get a little more enjoyment out of it, buschy!

My second suggestion would be the Civic (warranty), and the E36 a distant third in this case.

My heart is telling me that you should go with an E36 M3..but in reality, the best all around option would be a civic. It's relatively cheap to maintain plus it'll be a good car for your kid..so my vote goes for the civic even though I love BMWs.

p.s., make sure the civic is loaded, the navigation is pretty nice. It's a fun car to drive, a good friend has one.

Nice catch! And great thought. But unfortunately this happened a couple days after I started driving the X5 again, including after a ~40-mile day on Sunday. If it really was just low voltage, I'll let you know and get a battery tender immediately

If I'm not mistaken, didn't the ZHP include not only a power bump but a short-shifter for the 6-speed ZF tranny on the E46 330i's? What a shame that they forgave that for the automatic. I read your other thread, the Civic is probably the most practical choice, but there is something really special about BMWs, especially E46s, and if you go that route IMHO your son will learn over time to appreciate all the elements of the joy of driving that are not covered on paper when comparing it to a new Civic (that straight-6 sound, linear power delivery and plenty of torque for real-world driving, the way the E46 shrinks around you and you know exactly where each tire is planted, the timeless exterior styling). You don't sound like you're in a terrible rush to buy the car, I'd try really hard to find a CPO '05 330i ZHP before resorting to the civic - as long as you're prepared for a bit more effort as it definitely won't be as bulletproof as the Honda. My first car was an E30 325i, the next one a new E46 sedan, and they are probably a significant reason that I'm in an E92 M now and love cars as much as I do. I think if you find the E46 route feasible, your son will thank you for it down the road; he sounds mature enough to handle the car and I don't think it attracts too much undue attention in everyday situations.

Apparently I'm supposed to lead the meet, so I'll be there Definitely come! The more the merrier, and the weather is looking awesome lately. Went on an hour-long aimless drive this morning, including some spirited runs through 1-3rd gear

Recommend That You Check On Insurance Costs

I think the accident rate for youthful new drivers is over 100%. Insurance will cost an arm and a leg whatever your son drives. Knowing the insurance cost before hand could influence the which car to buy decision.

actually my insurnce is pretty good, the rates are low, but they dont change much from car to car, lol.
for expample my 2000 ci was the same price give or take ten bux in six months as my 2009 335.
which was the same six month as my e93 m3, and so on so on.
I added my son as a learner on my policy and it didnt change, once he is driving i am sure it will.
