Also, you can clearly see one of the screws that holds the VANOS adjuster together is backing out (under the spring).
You know what else happens? The spring swings out at high rpm and rubs against the valve cover and timing chain cover, causing metal to go into the engine. Eventually a small hole forms in the valve cover and oil starts leaking. After you replace the VANOS adjusters, you also have to pull the oil pan to clean the magnesium, aluminum, and plastic out of it. Otherwise the oil level sensor will read inaccurately and tell you the car is low on oil when it's really not.

It's because I saw the wave pattern on the bearings , and mostly the bearings from SC S65's show that wear wave pattern as well .
Wish you the best of luck with your replaced bearings..

Thank you for the information

2013 E92 DCT 39,000 miles
Original owner, catless, ESS tune, oem air filter, 10w60 BMW change intervals, never tracked.

Went with BE bearings and OEM rod bolts. Changed to Shell Rotella T6 oil and will be changing the oil more often.

I run 5W40 Rotella T6 on stock S65 bearings, and in our X5 too. Fantastic oil. Though if I've installed BE bearings into an M3 then the 10w60 may be better.

This thread deserves a bump and a sticky.

Again hard to judge from the pictures, but would these easily run another 58k miles?

My 2009 with 74k miles. Switched to M1 0w40/5w50 blend at around 40k miles and ran 4-8k OCI intervals.

Cylinder 1 starting at top of the picture, top shells are obvious as they are the more worn for each cylinder.

Here's a few closeups:

Pretty uniform wear all around with the telltale copper showing at the parting lines and along the edges

Between 5k - 7.5k OCI. I'm not the original owner but original owner was also an enthusiast. OCI is unknown.

It appears 5 and 6 had a metal debris lodged in between and created a ring mark around where copper is exposed. It appears they all have consistent wear though. Didn't have any issues with the motor but rb could've gone another 60k?

That's a great catch! Glad you found a good shop. Question. Why 10w40? It doesn't flow any better cold than tws.

It's too bad there aren't blackstone reports next to each bearing photo. Just for curiosities sake.
