Hi guys,

The Michelin Pilot Super Sport is out and I'm looking to get a set to replace my ageing PS2s.

Even though the press kit states that there is a 265/35 R19 tire available, my tire shop says that it wouldn't be available that quickly. However, the 275/35 R19 is available.

Would the dynamics and handling of the car change negatively if I put a 275 section tire on the rear with the standard 245/35 in the front?

Pls advise. Thanks.

id also like to know this. im in the market for new tires to replace my stocks and i was interested in going wider (285's?) on the stock 18's.

To maintain the balance, you would want to go 255 in the front and 275 in the rear. If you stick with 245 front you will likely increase understeer.

If you are lowered, you also need to consider that the 275 is higher, so may create rubbing issues - depends on spacers and suspension setup.

I had a set of advan AD08 255s front and 275s rear before. On that setup, the steering felt incredibly heavy and I didn't like it. It felt way more natural on the PS2s 245f 265r.

The AD08 is a sticky tire with a stiff sidewall and generally comes much wider for the size ( ie more like a 265, even though it is listed as 255). With that said, I think the super sport would be less"heavy".

The real problem here is that the m3 is already setup for understeer. The tire sizes you are asking about would just make that more pronounced.

Would you say it's best to go with 245 and leave the front stock when replacing the ps2? Do they even make supersport in that size?

I checked tire rack and they don't have it.

I find my M3 to be about perfectly balanced, or if anything with a slight touch of oversteer, maybe I lucked in to one that has the optimum alignment.

Most production cars are setup to understeer for safety reasons. It's easier to correct understeer than oversteer. The m3 definitely has understeer tendencies. If you take it to the track this becomes very obvious. This is the reason you see so many of the track cars with a square setup, which is more neutral.

Whereas my e46 M3s definitely understeered and no amount of tuning the camber, toe and tyre pressures could get close to removing....my E92 M3 shows no tendency to understeer whatsoever. In fact when I read the threads where folk want to put bigger tyres on the front or the back or both I have to stop myself from asking why they would want to disturb the near perfect balance the standard set up provides.
Maybe my car is in the sweet spot for set up but I never worry about front end grip when pushing the car to the limit only about correcting oversteer.
