Mine fit great. Didn't need to bend any lines.

It has nothing to do with aerodynamics, if anything the Mporium piece is more aerodynamic as it's flat. You do need to bend the hard power-steering line up a little (it won't hurt anything, supposed to be bendable). This ensures the hard line doesn't touch the new piece.

I can think of a few reasons why the OEM is like that:

(1) The OEM central piece is held by these stupid steel cable with nuts, it's super annoying. The side pieces hang down to match the center piece for easy access to the hanging bolts and nuts. Mporium don't require these hanging cables, which is a huge relief.
(2) The OEM hangs down to be a "feeler" component, warning you not to drive further if you're close to a tall obstacle. However, the OEM cracks so easily so that is useless.
(3) OEM piece is designed to be assembled quicker, no drilling or eyeballing to fit.
It actually forces air down for less wheel drag and is a bit of aero in fact.

This line right here, push it up so it doesn't touch the tray. This photo here the line is touching the tray. It's bendable.

If you say so, it feels fine at 140mph. 80% of the trays at this age are either cracked, broken, or punctured which don't serve much of an aerodynamics purpose so keep replacing them with the $400 felt every 2yrs if you prefer.

Yeah it's so minimal and really only usable at high speeds but this is just one of the little engineering parts that makes BMW appeal to us. Look at any 3 series car and they have these but made of rubber. If you take all the little things they do, you get a real fun car.

Minor detail, and assuming they both do the job well, deansbimmer contributes to this forum with technical expertise and sure helps out a lot of folks with advice and recommendations on repairs.

I perfer this Mporium tray over the turner one.

The Turner tray attaches to the frame, what would happen if you bottom out your car? Instead of scraping the tray up, you might even the damage the frame rails.

The shape of Mporium tray doesn't affect aerodynamic whatsoever. I have it on my car and I've gone well above 230km/hr countless times at the track down the straight and the car was super stable.

Based on the oem design it appears to be more for oil cooler flow with the center portion and drag reduction with the outer portions, rather than anti-lift/stability.

still don't understand the cost with these. 400 seems very hight for a thin metal tray that completely flat with bolted edged used to hold window seal to make the opening for the oil cooler. Material wise someone can reproduce this for under 100 dollars. The simular produce purchased for my z was 189 dollars shipped, water jet cut and perfect fitment. the term M tax is real.

Yep. I play around with both my cars (also drove a camaro), and modding a Chevy is way cheaper.

That said, glad I found this thread. I've destroyed this part twice now. How much is the Turner one?

I just installed my mporium tray this week. If you take your time on the install it will turn out really clean and smooth.

It's not thin metal--it's about an eighth inch thick, the fabrication and finish is top notch, and the design is clever. I had no qualms with the price.

Anyone have experience with both the Turner and Mporium undertray. I hear good things about the Turner but is it worth another $100+?

Turner's bolts to the frame. While that might sound neat, the problem is when/if you do scrape you're potentially going to have the frame attachments bend. I have the mPorium tray, and it flexes with the bumper and doesn't hang nearly as low. I could have scored the turner for the same price with a discount I have. If Colter's tray was $100 more I'd still make the case to buy his.

The only question I have for the community is, has anyone mounted this in conjunction with a gt4 style lip? I mainly want to make sure the fit is still good and the brake ducts found on most gt4 lips still fit through the openings. I'm tempted to just get a cheap plastic eBay gt4 lip and fit it up.

Anyone install this on an SC E9x. I am wondering if this will interfere with the pump that sits in the right front corner.

No issues with clearance on mine.

This is intentional and is part of how the ground clearance is increased so much.

But you can't. If you want 100% USA materials, made 100% here instead of China, that cost is passed onto the customer. Even in our volume production of 100+ pcs per batch we cannot make them to our quality level for that cheap. If you want to DIY a homebrew solution for your own car that's fine, but most peoples time is worth more.

It's not a problem. The GT4 brake duct is in the same plane as the tray and does interfere, so there is some clearance trimming required if you wish to use ducting for the brake cooling.

It works on all systems currently on the market. Some intercooler pumps may require their mountings moved upwards, but only if they were not installed according to the SC manufacturers instruction. ESS, VF, HARROP, all fit and clear without issue.

Due to popular request back in R&D stage, we provided the holes for cables to be installed, but we don't use them when we install the trays here at our shop. Since the tray increases ground clearance and sits higher up than the felt panels, the cables are too long once installed and have to be bunched up.

The original felt panels "balloon" at high speed as engine bay pressures increase. The cables prevent the original panels from blowing down and tearing at those pressures. Since our tray is rigid aluminum (and due to the way it mounts) those cables no longer serve a purpose and can be omitted if preferred.

We have been working on our website and now have a way to order online, directly.

@deansbimmer which piece would you trim? The lower part of the bumper where the ducts fit up into, or the tray?

The tray is trimmed back to clear the brake ducts. See attached photos of a similar install:
