I asked the same thing when I got mine done 3 weeks ago. I went with the German Auto Werks covers as they are 3hrs from me and a bit cheaper but I think Sloan etc are pretty much the same. They said it's not possible due to clearances and also needing to verify they are all on you got to see from the backside with a mirror.

So someone eventually picked up Sloans design and started producing the same?

That I don't know the exact specifics on. From pictures it looks like there is a cut out that is bigger on German Auto Werks verision vs Sloan's that locates them to the spring. But I've never had the Sloan's in hand so can't compare much. But these were $225 and they are somewhat local to me so figured no point in paying extra for Sloan's.

Yes, already debated. He's a straight Slon knock off. But was inevitable.

And why not if he still makes money from half price. Competition clearly needed.

I know Mpower was a direct copy. But didn't know if German Auto Werks was as well. Either way that's what I have and have no complaints so far. They are the cheapest out for the 3 companies making them I think.

Yep $299 sounds about right. But since I got actuators as well I got a little discount. Just got them the other day and they look very well made.

Anyone have success replacing these by just opening the timing cover, without removing the valve cover? Any leaks after?

Someone already asked and answer was no due to space issues and ensuring they're seated properly can only be done when valve covers are off. Infact it's right at the top of this page.

For anyone interested in the original Slon covers, I am running some BF pricing through sunday on them. $299 shipped. Also have the DCT pans on sale.

I missed it by a day! , oh well, at least one advantage of not finding out about this problem until last week (!) is I won't be paying the startup cost.

Now I just need to find out whether I'm better off getting them from the US (from Alex) or directly (ish!) from Slon.
I need to find out shipping costs....
Move Over Going by your website, am I right in thinking you don't ship out of the US?

Helmsman How did I not know about this problem until last week!? You're not keeping me upto date mate!
Joking aside, that shop that did your covers were careless, regardless of how new the job is to them they should've checked round them after fitting them, basic mechanicing!
On an unrelated note, I've handed my notice in to the Suzuki dealer I'm working for and will be working at a BMW dealer in the new year, with much better pay!

So sorry mate, will make sure to keep you better posted going forward...

Congratulations to the new job mate. I'm confident that you'll immediately increase the average BMW dealers car understanding (+ customer interest)- good luck!

Happy to ship globally, my website for some reason is not jiving with international shipping, but I can still send you an invoice. Did we already email back and forth or was that someone else? If not, shoot me a message and I will send you an invoice.

So I had my valve covers done 10,000 ish miles ago (Car currently has 110k miles). I didn’t know about this upgrade. Also my tech didn’t mention if the covers where cracked. Should I get these and get my valve covers redone again?

You won't need new gaskets after 10k (assuming they don't get physically damaged).
But assuming you still have the original plastic VANOS covers, I would just ditch them and get metal ones.
Even if the current covers aren't cracked, you just don't know how long they're going to last (such a rubbish idea to have plastic inside an engine!).
