FAQ on BMWNA under "owners", then "BMW Assist", then "Myinfo FAQ".
http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...MyInfoFAQ.aspx After following these instructions to send it, the next time you are in your car you should have a message under "BMW Assist" in the main idrive menu. Open the message and save it to your contacts or address book or whatever it's called. Works as advertised. |

I should also mention you need an email address associated with your BMW assist account. This should already be set up for you by your CA, but if not you'll need to do this. You'll need this the first time you send something, but I noticed the google maps web page saves this info so I didn't have to enter it again the next time I sent something.

I tried it... nice... google maps even confirms successful delivery to the BMW ... quite nice. Now to go in the M3 and see if it showed up! This is really a killer mashup. Or could be... let me go check it out first.

heh.. successful delivery turns out to refer to BMW's servers... who then bounced it because email on the accout does not match up to what I used on google maps.

Its not always immediate, either.
I thought it would happen in just a few minutes the other night and it took over an hour. |

ok, I got this working... BMW Assist people and the website are working off of an older or otherwise completely different user interface.
Get yerself an 09 iDrive, go to google maps, get your location on the map, click on Send (top right of the map), choose the 'Car' option, then enter BMW for mfr, BMW USA region, and then your email address (registered with your dealer at time of purchase for BMW Assist usage) or email address of anyone else with an 09 iDrive (no spamming!). As soon as I got to the car, about 15 min later, there was a little message icon at the top right status area (where the time, cell signal, HD radio icons are) ... if you see that for the first time, then your google map was transferred. Go to main Menu -> BMW Assist -> Messages and after a little updating message, you'll see your google map link... push down on that message and you then see the flag icon to start guidance or move the joystick to the right for the screen in which you can add this location to your stored locations. I haven't actually started Nav to the message'd location, but believe it will work ok from this point on. |

Pls note again that the current BMW website on MyInfo is not current and not correct for 09 USA iDrives... at least not in my 09 M3.
Read through my post above for the current user interface for retrieving the google maps message... just to remind you, look for the little message icon in the upper right corner of the screen.. in the little status box area. That means, amongst other things, that you *may* have a Google Map link sent to you. |

Although no MY2008 E9x can receive Google maps in their iDrive right now, all E9x with production date 04/08 are equipped with the new GSM TCU that is capable of supporting eventually this feature in the USA (it has been available in Canada since... 04/08).

I have an 09 e90, and can use it right now without paying for any additional service.
Do the instructions above. Type in your email under the "account name" line, and type in your phone number in the telephone number line. Both of these must match exactly for the message to get through. Call up BMW assist while in the car if it doesn't work. Perhaps they have a wrong telephone number on file (work vs. cell, etc.) as the primary phone number. They can also send a test message to you to make certain everything is working alright. |

In my experience, the telephone number is optional... I have successfully sent google maps to the car leaving the telephone field blank. The BMW Assist gateway seems to uniquely key off of the email address.

on the e46 m3 there was a way to figure out the telephone number of your bmw. Has anyone figured out how dial into our cars? With this new GSM TCU, I'm sure there's a phone number there some where.

For anyone interested, here's an example of what the box looks like that you fill in. This box comes up after you do "Search Maps" and then hit the "Send" link. After you complete the information and hit "Send" in this box, the information is sent to your car.
