With The Glen, Calabogie and now Fort Erie, my days at Mosport could be numbered. Hopefully the road course will be part of the initial build and opening.

I will get excited about this project once the ground has been broken for the construction. There are still a lot of doubts about this happening so I will wait and see what happens.

This was passed on to me this AM from somebody in the know.

Quote:
Duncan: They have no real money even though they keep mentioning the UAE people. The fact remains; if they had this money they would just build the place and then go after different race series. Instead, they use NASCAR's name (knowing NASCAR won't deal with them without a track built) hoping to get GOVERNMENT money to build their track. They told everyone they didn't need taxpayers cash - yet right there in the OMB hearing material they stated that they needed this support, both from the City of Fort Eire and the Province. They 'hope' that Hudak won't turn them down as Dalton McLiar did several times. I can't see Hudak giving them money as this was the guy that didn't want thousands of auto workers in this Province getting bale out cash from the Liberials. One would hope Hudak turns them down as what part of 'private' enterprise don't they understand. Here's a concept; spend YOUR money on YOUR business and keep all of the profits! But you see, the $ support is vapour. The business plan was to get NASCAR to 'say' you could have a date - then go to the taxpayers for the loan backing. Meanwhile, a fully private group (CTMP) are doing it the old school way - THEMSELVES on their OWN. Let the taxpayers of UAE fully fund this I say.

Yep - bullshit baffles brains, but hopefully this track will come to fruition. Its exactly what we need. What I find hard to get excited about is the changes at mosport which are at least 10 years over due. All I can see from the new group is that they dont care about casual lappers such as us. More interested in trying to sign series events (which is great as a spectator and enthusiast), but cutting back on days open to guys like us.

The new track in Fort Erie may be the same way, but hopefully they will have more of a Calabogie style atmosphere and fill the void for us lappers.

I do hope it gets built but like all the new facilities that are being built, they are not for the grassroot enthusiast.Mosport has raised the prices once again next year along with mandatory rental of the new facilities which just might drive some the track rentals elsewhere due the economics of running track days and what people will pay to be involved.Motorsport of any sort has never been inexpensive and it looks like even less so as time goes on.

Bah! Fort Erie is trying to steal my thunder. I'm going to be building a track and club (a la Monticello) somewhere in Southern Ontario in the next few years. I've already got some backing from a VP of a major Canadian bank, as well as some others. I've also let a message for a guy named Bernie.

The track is going to be approximately 25km long, featuring the greatest turns from every track in the world (as well as the banking from Monza). Location, zoning etc., hasn't been figured out yet, but i'll be collecting memberships next year ($50,000 initiation and $10,000 minimum per year). It'll be geared towards track junkies and club racers, with a year round heated-asphalt track, garages and a tower that will put the CN Tower to shame.

Competition is just gong to make it better for everyone. I mean 25km track - You can't beat that. Lapping you 3 times in a 20 minute session will definitely be a bit more challenging.

We might even be able to steal their Arab investors if they find out about our plan to build the track on a man made island in the middle of Lake Erie!

But all the way to Lake Ontario!? Lap times are going to be like 6 hours!

And lappers will need to being their own pit crew to handle refuelling!
