Muffler Opinion

Question for you all, hoping to get an opinion for my 2 options.

Originally i had an OEM Mod muffler and it just was not loud enough for me, so i decided to do a muffler delete....Bad idea. Although at WOT it does not seem much louder than my oem mod, the drone and loudness at idle is unbearable almost embarrassing. What im planning on doing is installing 2 small mufflers to combat drone and ive seen a youtube video where a guy installs 2 cherry bomb single chambers and it seems to work pretty well.

Now ive found two polished mufflers of the same shape but the decision is one is chambered like a cherry bomb or flowmaster super 10 etc, or one that has the holes inside and fiberglass packing similar to what oem would have been.

If anybody has more knowledge which one will combat drone better without making it too quiet like the oem mod.

Get a proper exhaust. This isn't a Honda.

Use YouTube to figure out the sound you're going for and buy that exhaust designed for this car. Don't bother with the eBay shit. Nobody is going to be able to tell you what that is going to sound like.

If you would like a budget exhaust for the e92 M3 - look into the Megan Supremo offered by Megan Racing. It goes for about $800 and has a fairly enthusiastic following. You pretty much have to double the price and then onward for other options. Borla makes a few options in the $1500-2300 range, and the Corsa exhaust is usually available for around 2k and is well reviewed. It depends on the sound you want out of the car.

Just wanted to chime in as I have the megan exhaust with test pipes. I love this combo. I have had this exhaust setup for about 2 years now and have not had the desire to change it, because it sounds really good to me. I bought it when it was going for about $500, which is a fantastic deal. The only other one that I have heard in person that I think sounds better is the meisterschaft gt, however, in my opinion, I think it is too loud with test pipes or x-pipe with no primary cats especially as a DD.

I've had a couple false-starts in my quest to mod the exhaust, with Megan being one of them. Gosh darn it, but the exhaust won't fit the e93. Thankfully I figured this out before it was shipped. But agreed, it's (I think) the best value out there.

Ran into a local guy a bit ago that had a custom muffler delete. Didn't sound bad at all when idling, we had a nice conversation over our cars' idles in the middle of a parking lot, so not obnoxious. Forgot what he did, I believe he changed pipe diameters at certain points IIRC. Also, it was incredibly loud when he rev'd it up, like race car loud.

I would second this. You can try and cut-n-paste an exhaust system for these cars but 99 times out of 100 you will get less than stellar results. Parts for these cars are not cheap, and for exhaust you do generally get what you pay for. Not saying you need to drop $7k+ for an Akra to get good sound, but you will not be able to pick up random muffler X for $30 and have any expectation that it will solve your drone issue. Exhaust companies spend lots of time and $$$ trying to do that and there are so many variables and combinations at play.

Since sound is very subjective you will likely have to do what many on this forum have done and try different thing, different combos, to get what you want. Tons of options available used in the marketplace, and if one doesn't tickle your fancy, sell it and try another. That is one nice thing about this community is that you usually have no problem selling good parts. But in this case, $30 is not going to cut it.

only problem with the Megan is my OEM mod was louder than it.

While I echo everyone else that you should get a proper exhaust, here you go...

"ive seen a youtube video where a guy installs 2 cherry bomb single chambers and it seems to work pretty well"

yes this is the video i stated in the post. The only question is whether a muffler with the packing, or a single chamber muffler will be better at combating drone, nothing brand related just type of muffler.

I went with Borla from 4wheelonline. It has a nice rumble. A bit loud, but sounds great when cruising.
