I have to say though my favorite colors are Hellrot and Monte Carlo Blue

Yes, the E9x series seems to be more "upscale" vs. crazy hotrod colors. I love all of the insane colors. Heck, the lime green Camaro with the black stripes is awesome IMHO.

Standard color options? E36 had the best selection. Estoril, techno violet, cosmos black, yellow, etc.

The E9x generation was not so good...how many shades of blue?

One of my favorite combos is a white E46 with a red interior. Not sure why...it just works.

AW / CB / FR is the best color combo for e92 m3

When I presented my wife with pictures of LeMans Blue and Laguna Seca Blue she asked why I wanted a Smurf car. That comment plus the fact that the paint was $5k moved me to LeMans blue. I didn't want to listen to smurf comments from her for the rest of my life.

e92 Alpine white on fox red with a carbon fiber roof. Absolutely gorgeous, and I'm not biased either since I don't have an e92, white, fox red, or CF.

Though a couple of the E9x reds are quite nice.

I never got tired of my E36 Dakar Yellow & if I order my E92 I'll forgo other options to get the yellow. I love it!

Yep, IR with IR is an awesome color combo - I have a '03 e46 M3 with this combo along with the brushed Al trim

Everyone is stating their favorite colors....I think the op's question was which generation had the best 'standard' color offerings... To me, it's simple....hands down the e36. Estoril, hellrot, cosmos, Dakar, techno, Avus, arctic, titanium.... No contest.

Yes, there are other colors from other generations that are fantastic...but as a whole, e36 wins IMHO.

My E46 M3 was Titanium Silver
Current E92 M3 is Silverstone II

But the best M colour is Estoril. E36 M3 in Estoril is pure timeless

Of course, they also introduced Interlagos Blue on the 05/06 E46 M3 Comp Package (which is now a standard option on the E9x M3)
