Took the M for a really nice cruise through the Bear Mountain area yesterday. Was a blast and met some great people.

This was the longest I have driven the car since I purchased, so really had a chance to get comfortable with the car.

One thing I noticed is when I accelerate at a lower rpm (2k-4k) under heavier load, I noticed a ticking (hard to explain) that would go away when I let off the throttle. It is only noticeable with the windows closed and sounds like its coming from behind the radio/climate control area.

The car is stock, and we all know the s65 is a noisy engine. Anyone else notice anything similar? I would imagine with an aftermarket exhaust you wouldn't even be able to hear it. Idk if its just injector noise, typical engine noise, or if something is up. Thanks in advance.

Edit: https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=512258

I think it may be the send one in this post, but I cant tell if its the same noise. ^

Kinda sounds like this except not as loud. Nothing heard on idle.

No all stock. Its not a rattle though. It sounds like its coming from behind the dash or near the shifter area.

You are gonna drive yourself crazy with this car and all the threads you start.

Have you ever thought of just buying a brand new car? Like a Corolla maybe?

I have never heard such a noise before .Sounds like an electrical zooming noise (not sure)
NOTE : Last night (3:30 AM) I tried to reply your last PM . But I got the message => Your PM-inbox is full ...

I think your situation is for your local BMW/Dealer . And I hope they know where the noise comes from.

I will have to get my own video when I get the chance. Im not sure the one I posted is exactly representative.

First I thought when you mentioned about a ticking noise , it was like usual bearing related .
Thank God , your noise is NOT bearing related ! (It's not a ticking noise) Like I said above it sounds like an electrical zooming noise .

To troubleshoot your noise via video is nearly impossible ..That's why I said your situation is for your local BMW/Dealer .

Electrical zooming? Sounds like a fast clicking/ticking to me. But fair enough. Thanks.

Great run!. Doesn't sound normal but maybe all the twisties made something loose underneath. I would do a thorough inspection from the bottom.

I did notice it beforehand as well. The video i posted seems way louder than mine. Im going to pop the shift boot off later, but I doubt I will find anything.

Think it comes somewhere from behind or under your dash..(not sure) I heard once an electrical zooming noise coming from a relay . Replaced it , and the noise was gone !
Troubleshooting a noise was never easy. Let us/me know ...

It’s more likes rattling sound resembling to the sound I had have it on mine before...Take off your engine shield bed... you might find something interesting in there. I found a spark plug stucked between the shield and the oil pan which made tickling and rattling sound likes your video clip.

Interesting, but doesn't the video I posted sound like something more mechanical? The best analogy I can think of is an exhaust leak or valve noise. :

Bump. Anyone have any idea? Taking it in on Saturday. I tried messaging the person who originally posted the video but it seems he is inactive.

I’ve had a similar if not the same noise for about 60k miles. I’ve heard of a few others with this noise. I think there’s a thread about the air tube on the rear of the intake manifold(I know that’s not what it’s called since we have itb’s) cracking and leaking and then once it was replaced it resolved the issue.

Very interesting. I haven't come across any of that in my searches. What I am trying to avoid is the dealership telling me its all normal. I want to at least think I know what I am talking about when I walk in there. Lol.
