Water/Oil temps - high threshold for AIM dash

Does anyone have input on separate high water and oil temperature thresholds? I am setting up my AIM dash alarm configurations and now have separate oil and water temps.

I was going to do 250-260 oil, 150? Water. Not sure what these cars run at when lapping. Comparing to my vette temps.

Thanks in advance!

Are you asking what temps you should have the alarms trigger at? If that's the case you'll probably be looking around 275 for oil and ~230 for water.

Oil temps of 250 are fairly typical when tracking hard and nothing to worry about. Anything above 275 I'd start to worry and want to back off. Perhaps like 270 and 220-225 for the alarms to trigger are good starting points.

Yep that's what I'm looking for. Thanks a bunch

I would set the warnings to 275 on oil and 230 for water.

Remember that you are measuring the temperature at the sensor location. For example, the oil temp in the bearings is much higher than 275 even when the gauge shows 275.

I just looked back on my last event when I got the first yellow warning at close to 280 so I'd agree with setting a warning at 275 for oil temp. Water was around 220.

Maybe the best approach would be to look at your historical data, find the average for each of those across an entire day, then set the warning at 5% above?

Then I'd use the 275 and 220/230 numbers as many have suggested. Check the data after your first session and see if that's appropriate. You can always change it later. The place you don't want to be is to have the warning set at a place where you might quickly touch it for a half-second each lap, which distracts you.

I programmed the AiM as follow:
Warning - Oil Temp below 200 (yellow led)
Good - 200-240 (green light until button pressed)
Warning - 240-250 yellow
Critical - greater than 250

All above using same LED on the GS display.

I have the do88 and historical data shows below 250 temps

I have similar for water temp and oil pressure using other LED (I have 4 to play with)

My oil goes >270 on any hot lap. I have DO88 and running close to 10 liters of oil. Critical at 250 seems like a warning you'll have to ignore too often to be useful.

I have a track day at LRP this tue and will try the setup. Easy to adjust as needed.
