Thrown Rod
Currently pulled off of 95 low oil pressure/limp mode with shaking, bad noises, and a lot of smoke on the initial occurrence. Everything looks fine under the hood though...
Any chance this isn’t a catastrophic engine failure? I had my bearings replaced when I supercharged around 24k miles and have put another 25k since with zero issues. |

Thanks. Yep, I double checked where I had her parked all day and there was nothing there. So I’m clinging onto hope that she retained enough oil until I got her onto the shoulder and stopped before any permanent damage was done. My oil temperature stayed normal right until shut down and I didn’t have any alarms either until then. My power nEver cut out, I just got loss of oil pressure/engine problem warning. The worst part about this is I’m just visiting friends and family on a long road trip, further complicating logistics.

Thanks. Only other thing I noticed other than oil on the deck was a significant amount of oil definitely came out of my ehaust. I’m way more experienced with boat/ship engines but usually that’s a sign of a crank case explosion (some sort of fuel or oil intrusion where it shouldn’t be. On marine Diesel engines sometimes this won’t require full rebuild. Clinging onto hope, but the S65 did sound TERRIBLE before I shut her down on the shoulder. Gut reaction was thrown rod or 1-2 cylinders were inop.

Sorry to hear! I'm assuming you towed to a shop local to the problem and not Road Island as your details indicate? That's going to be a pain to handle logistics with....

Things get lost in the failure thread, other than adding your failure to it, i don't think it's the best place for discussion. Also due to being supercharged it could be that the main bearings failed first. Ideally the motor would be broken down to know more. I'm sure there are a few that a curious of what the root cause was. Either way, once you have more updates/pics, let us know. Goodluck getting her running again.

While I wait for more Info and better photos...
Was talking to my dad the other day and he reminded me that this is the third engine I've blown up in my life:
1) ~2000 Dodge Intrepid driving from house party to another party in high school (thrown rod/total loss) 2) ~2008 Toyota highlander New Year's Day one year in college. (Seized/not sure why covered under warranty) 3) 2012 E93 M3 (still waiting on initial cause of thrown rod) The scariest one by far was the highlander. The engine seized on the Nj turnpike in dense traffic and had to Coast to a stop on the shoulder in heavy traffic and no power steering. I know it's been a while with no substantial updates if any of y'all are dying for specifics of my M casualty, before I get the full picture together, feel free to PM! |

Crazy luck you've had, hopefully that changes.
I PM'd you my email, you can email me the picture and i'll resize them and post them for you. Looks like the thread title edit didn't work, perhaps creating a new thread is a good idea.
