Clean examples of F10 M5’s and F80 M3’s aren’t going up.

Clean E9x M3’s are going up, especially low mileage ones. A lot of people are also coming back to this car, or end up buying one as a weekend toy.

Some Honda’s are special as well, for example the NSX. If you don’t see what’s special about this car, you should probably try to drive it a bit harder.

Cars with high revving n/a engines are gone forever, so they’re slowly turning into collectibles. Not to mention they’re way more fun to drive than new cars.

F10 M5s and F80 M3s are still pretty new and a lot of them are coming off lease so there are still plenty of clean ones to choose from.

Wait a few years when the clean ones are harder to find and they'll go up or maintain value just like every other clean M car.

Yup, the E92 M is a very unique experience. New cars don’t have that same level of theater.

I think this is also consistent with what you see even in the FS section of the forum, and a good use of objective data. Prices for 'unicorns' going up, well maintained lowish mileage holding relatively steady and then some cars with more stories still depreciating slightly. As with every market, each item will have to be judged on its own merit of where it stands in that curve/range.

I think will still drop a tad bit, maybe starting next year, the price be rock bottom and from then on, the prices will start to rise from then on.

That's what the market has shown for sure. There were only 5867 E90 M3s imported versus 15,799 E92s, so that alone will help dictate pricing long term. There is a niche market looking for a manual in a performance sedan (i.e. the E39 M5 formula somewhat), and that leaves only 3135 examples of the E90 imported with 6MT. Just for comparison's sake, that is about 1/3 the number of E39 M5s imported.

Out of those 3135 E90 6MTs, how many have less than 50k miles, have been garaged 24/7 since new, no bodywork, no winter road use, etc? That's one example of an appreciating corner of the E9x M3 market...or at least one holding steady.

I owned an E39 M5 for 15 years and watched it depreciate for the first ~7 years, and from the bottom of that path my car ended up selling for almost twice that value (sold it on BaT two years ago now). Throughout that appreciation path there was a huge contingent of people proclaiming it would never appreciate; that belief is actually a requirement for a car to appreciate -- the vast majority must hold the belief that prices aren't going to go up much "from here" in order for prices to go up, potentially a lot, "from here."

Yep... then you factor in 08s which I personally don't even consider after owning one at the start. Ive been looking for a clean low mile 09-11 for months. Not an easy task.

If you want an LCI E90 with a 6MT, there are only 1055 cars imported, with the remaining 2532 being DCT. In net with either transmission, only 3587 to choose from.

I know my search back in 2012 was super hard even then. I wanted a 2011 6MT slicktop. It turns out there are only something like ~250 total cars that meet that criteria which I didn't know at the time. It took me a year to find one I wanted (as new condition, low mileage) to buy having finally found one in Feb 2013 with 15k miles.

hey hey now
don't knock the '08 too much

'08 6MT here

the trunk and taillight swap is easy enough
yes, the CCC is ancient and sucks but even the CIC is very outdated now
and it's not like I use the navigation or anything
i might get around to swapping out the whole screen and system someday

Wow, so 3135/5867 of E90 M3s are 6MT? Making DCT rarer? That's a surprise.
