Has anybody run a Michelin Pilot Sport 4s in track with our car?

I currently have AD08(275x30x19 and 295x30x19). However I need to replace my rear tires. Unfortunately ad08r don't have this configuration anymore. After searching, it seems p4s is a valiable tires and bought it for dual purpose(I only track my car once or twice a year).

Do you think P4s is trackable at all? I'm planning to run on -1.6 (front) and -2.1 (rear) camber on stock suspension and eibach lowering spring.

Not a E9x, but a different type of M3. Tires are awesome. I can't help you with tire pressures since I only ran 3 laps, but if you search on rennlist track section, they have a thread on the 4s.

Thanks! it seems this tire has softer side walls so need to be careful when first going to track. From rennlist, it seems recommendation is to stay within 35-37psi hot. After that, it gets very sticky and overheats.

Trying to see if people out here uses this tire in track especially with our heavy car.

I did and it's great tire in wet weather. Low 50F temperatures and plenty of rain with no issues.

For a dry 70-80F degree 2.5 mile track, you can get about 4-5 hot laps out of the tires before they start really squealing and getting greasy. I aimed for 34:35 psi hot but if you start at that pressure cold, you'll easily be over 40 psi and not having a fun time.

If you're trying to extend tire life, I recommend limiting yourself to 2-3 hot laps with a cooldown lap in between for shorter tracks.

I ran mine (275/30r19 square) for 3 track days, each progressively warmer.

The tires grip well above their class. I'm really impressed. I also have little wear to show for it. The 4S seems like a significant leap above PSS performance on the track and especially in the wet.

For pressures, I started 35 all around and settles on 35f/32r to settle the rear down. I have an E90, though I dont think that changes the weight much. Also -2.5/-1.5 seem like good camber settings for the 4S grip and my Dinan springs on EDC and Dinan front swaybar.

I haven't seen temperatures above the 60s, but my tires held well through a very aggressive 20-min run group. No getting slimy.

At the end after a coll-down-ish lap, the tires were 160f on the outer fronts and 130 on the inner rear.

It can be taken to the track, but like any other street tire, watch your pressures and alignment. There is anecdotal evidence that the sidewalls are a bit softer and more rounded than the old PSS.

It will be a downgrade from the AD08R. You can still get those in the 295/30R19 size from Tire Rack if that's all you need to replace.

I ran 275/30/19 all the way around as well and found that for the first 4 laps or so they were great, but after that they started to get greasy and I could feel the grip falling off. Wear seemed reasonable to my inexperienced eye.

255/35/19 of both for reference. Different kind and levels of grip between both.

Tirerack has the ad08r which is different compound that regular ad08 which I have currently. Not sure if it's advisable to mixed both.

I wasn't even aware there was an AD08, maybe that's an older version that's discontinued? I had the R on my M3 several years ago and bought them from Discount Tire.

yea they have the ad08 which lasted me 20k miles on it so far with 4 track days. However rear is almost to the thread wear marker.

That's pretty good for a tire like that. Mine had about half the mileage but twice as many track days and were still going strong.

I wish they made more sizes -- would totally run them on my new car as well.

Stock pressure. As soon as I pull the car off the track, I check pressure and let out air to bring it back to stock.

PS4S is faster around a track than AD08R for its one or two sweet laps, so you'll definitely notice an improvement over the AD08. I bet the Yokohama still holds up better

I would be really surprised by that. The 08 is a way more aggressive tire with a more track-focused compound. I think I would agree that the 08 is going to be more consistent over the course of a session, however.

If you're interested (and can wait for shipping), I have a set of pole position S-04 tires in 295/30/19 that I only used for a few hundred miles that I would be willing to let go for $400 shipped. They actually have a bit more dry grip than the PSS/4S.

Edit: Also to answer your question, I was running PSS 275/30/19 and 295/30/19 for my first 10 or so track days and I was able to turn out some very good lap times, but as I started to progress, the tires were starting to get torn up way too easily so I just switched to the new Direzza ZIII for dedicated track wheel setup.

you'll be fine with the occasional track day with the 4s. just don't try to beat on them and beat on them lap after lap. tires and brakes will last longer.

For a warm day (>80 F), I went down to 26F/28R PSI cold inflation (measured next day at 60 F) which got over 36F/38R (measured after cool down) PSI on track. That seems like too big of a difference, but I didn't have a chance to collect more data.

This weekend I tracked a car with the PS4s.

They work just fine if you have camber plates. They won't keep an advanced driver happy for long but they are very competent.

People have to be realistic when buying tires. Living with a track tire like the AD08R when you track a couple times a year and aren't in the advanced group is a complete waste.
