I find if I shift at a little before 7,500 RPM instead of 8,200 RPM, I rarely get above teh 3rd hash mark, even on 100+ degree days at the track. But if you shift above 8,000 RPM consistently, it goes up pretty quickly. Obviously, we paid for 8,300 RPM, so there's always the desire to use it all.
.
Yes, I had read that one.

It's odd though, I always double track whatever M3 I have and it's always consecutive sessions and my brother and I are in red and black rungroups. Maybe I haven't run into issues because it's 6MT?

This year, the E92 6MT will be driven by a friend and if the car has an overheating problem we will find out quickly, as this guy redefines 'pedal to the metal'

I agree with the 8400rpm comment. My M steering wheel is set to flash at 8200rpm which is just enough time for me to shift before it cuts off at 8600.

Maybe it's due to ambient temps? I've run a few days at 90F and it's just disgusting. I try to avoid July and August due to that.

Nice post. I bet these coolers would really help on daily driving in our region with 125f temps in summer.

90 degrees is nothing!
Butttonwillow in August is 90 at 8AM and 115 mid day!! It's like a furnace blowing in your face.
I am surprised you're shifting at 8,500 RPM and don't have any overheating problems doing back to back sessions. It's also REALLY nice of you to let a friend drive your car like that. I'd always worry about a money shift.

Yeah, I've seen that before, too. Crazy! I guess that goes to show how much hotter the DCT runs that they actually elected to neuter the 6MT trans cooler from the factory.

Amazing that it makes that big of a difference, but like you say, that last 1,000 RPM is where all the magic happens! I'd be bummed leaving it on the table.

It just blew my mind... here I am installing a radiator that is twice the size on the DCT car... and the 6MT has 1/3 or half of its little radiator covered!

I'm going to remove the bumper and tear that piece of metal right off.

Wow... that is clearly a different ballgame then. I wouldn't be able to run those months because it's just too hot. That's probably the difference.

He's a really good friend and spends a month or two in the US a year. He flies over from Barcelona and then tracks for part of the season. Until now he used the older E46M but now it's sold so E92! He'll be running it with JRZ suspension and PFC bbk... curious to see what times he puts down.
If I had as much time off as this guy has I'd be going to Europe a month a year and track his fully built Z4MC with 530hp, MCS, PFC, cage, etc

I remember his first track day at WGI well. With a car he hadn't driven, in a track he hadn't driven, in a format he hadn't experienced (in Europe it's more Mad Max, none of this passing signal stuff) he still laid down a lap 3 seconds better than my personal best. Pretty awesome stuff. By far the most talented driver I've seen

Wonder if I need to do this. When will you guys and the new car be at WGI this year? Or VIR for that matter? I want to check this stuff out.

Sounds good. I'm tentatively registered for the 5/19-21 and 6/16-18 WGI events (not sure I can go to both, though), and I will likely be at VIR 9/1-3 as well. So, will definitely see you guys at some point! Looking forward to it.

Any updates on this? Looking to upgrade my cooling on my DCT-equipped E92 and trying to decide between the CSF and the do88 kit.

Specifically discussing DCT, it's hard to imagine another kit like this one. The carbon shroud included allows for a radiator that is waaay bigger than stock plus a more direct path to cool air

As far as the update:

We have double tracked the car two weekends so far. Max ambient temps was 75F which is not very hot.
The DCT has received the OEM GTS software update beforehand as well.

Results were excellent. Running hard at WGI with NT01 tires, zero miss shifts or hanky panky behavior of any kind.
Granted, NT01 is not a slick, but running sub 2:10 second laps per a SoloDL is moving!

Very happy with the kit, although it's still missing higher temps and stickier tires for a full workout

Thanks for the update. Yeah, 75 ambient for us in SoCal is about as cool as we could realistically ever hope for. In the early fall and spring, we are still dealing with +90 degree temps at CVR, for example.

do88 DCT cooler = never having lag issues while shifting, even in 110 deg Buttonwillow event.

Is Do88 the consensus best "Cooling Kit" for the E9X available?

Mine as well

The dct one seems to be the best by far. It is way bigger and the new shroud accepts much more air as well as provides a cleaner path

The other radiators were also top notch. The install instructions included were excellent as well

Update:

We are at 87F today at watkins glen, running the car double duty as usual with oem gts software.

Zero issues. It shifts exactly the same as when it is cold. We're running it an entire hour at a time

This is the hottest I can run, it's too hot!

Great to hear/see!

Does anybody know of the Do88 Cooling Kit will also work with the Harrop or the ESS VT-625? On the fence about the S/C, but want to make sure it works.

Did you change the Dct fluid during the cooler swap or you just replaced what you lost?

I'd ask do88 directly. The only one that could have an issue is the oil cooler, but I know people are running ess with aftermarket coolers
