Portable Tire Pumps

Looking for options for a quality, portable tire pump for track use at tracks where an air station isn't close by (or there at all).

I bought a cheap-ass one at Napa and the thing never worked. Short of lugging a huge air tank and really long extension cord to the track.

What is everyone using for this?

I have a Viair pump. Good reputation and works very well. Accurate dial. Connects to battery terminals under hood. Got it off amazon.

I just bring a bike pump, nice warm up in the morning, and no hassle of power... Doesn't take long to add 5 lbs/tire

i use a relatively expensive pump, but i also use it for offroading (filling 37" tires up from about 10psi) because i don't want to wait forever. pretty decent and fast.

I see a few guys at autocross use the Ryobi cordless inflator:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-18...P737/206159256

I personally only inflate between run groups and mostly just deflate in-between runs as the tires heat up, so I'm using a cheap-ish generic cigarette lighter inflator commonly found in any department store.

I bought mine for off-roading too. 32” Tires from 10psi to full. This is what I use:

Viair 00088 88P Portable Air Compressor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005ASY23I..._KyiMBb745ZCEK

I use this...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

super convenient at autoX and the track to inflate all tires to the same "target".

also, $30 prime.

I have several of the ARB and Viair for the off-road trucks, but its way more than we need for a BMW.

I got a portable 10 gallon air tank (longacre sells a 5 gallon tank) that I prefer over the air pumps. Just fill it up before leaving for the event and its plenty of air for the weekend.

I just use a bike pump Chris. 20 pumps equals 2lbs. Or just make sure you have plenty of pressure to start and let air out. Just don't drive 2.5 hours home with 28 psi and -3.5 camber!

I just got a Milwaukee 12V inflator that I like, but I have many Milwaukee 12V and 18V tools. If you gave a battery impact, see if the same company makes an inflator. Ryobi does, Ridgid does.

Thanks all for the recs. I may look into the one that Visceral posted. Cheap enough I don't mind breaking it/losing it.

What? Only -3.8 on the e46?! Lol. Well I had -3.2 then backed it down to -2.7 on the e92 and tires are perfect.........except for the inner 1/2" is about to cord . Now the e46 has -4.4 or so!

I got a cheap one from Harbor Freight. It works. I wouldn't really rely on it for repeated daily use, but for periodic top-offs or whatever, it's totally fine.

3.8 is about as far as you want to go with street tires lol. It's already a handful on the freeway with that much up front.

I used to lug around one of the Craftsman battery-powered compressors, which worked great until the locking chuck lost its ability to hold on to the valve stem. I've got a big compressor and tank in the garage, so I grabbed one of the little yellow Harbor Freight air tanks and I think it's worth the slight increase in volume. Only thing is you can't be quite as generous letting other folks use it during the day, the 5 Gal tank can do about 30-35PSI worth of total pressure increase in tires the size of the M3's before it hits equilibrium.
