As with DCT - I'm sure I'd be faster with it, but I still prefer the involvement of a manual box. There is something wrong about the look of an automatic lever in a GT3.

I agree about the Metzger engine. That was a clear cost cutting move.

All that said, this is still an awesome car.
I'm sorry, but who cares? Who's racing? I just don't get this lap time obsession. Everyone is buying into marketing BS of numbers (torque, hp, lap times, number of gears even). At the end of the day, what matters is feel (which, interestingly can't be measured with a number). My opinion, of course.

Quite honestly, why would you now pick one of these over a 458 Italia?
Because you want to pull the same performance numbers, and you'd like a new GTR and E46 M3 race car as well

I'm surprised they debut this before the turbo.

According to Porsche, 85% of GT3 (RS) owners track their car regularly.

Personally, I would prefer a raw, angry, lightweight car. Though I love the m3, I wish the car was much more stripped down than it is. The demand just doesn't exist for it. I went to the local Porsche dealer the other day to check out the 991. Every single one of them had PDK. I hate it, but that's what sells.

amazing... personally I'd go for a C4S for something more usable, but what a gorgeous car!

looking more like mild track build may happen. just having a problem justifying spending money to decrease the value of my car.

Agreed, but it's only a matter of time, isn't it

The PDK is the way of the future, and that's borne out on racetracks in most major pro racing classes. But I think Jethro Bovingdon hit the nail on the head when he asked, "Are you in a sense 'dumbing down' the GT3, seeking a wider audience" and increased sales? Apparently so--Andreas P. equivocates a bit and says, "This will be a better daily driver, more useful every day." That's what the Carrera S is for. Preserve this one for the enthusiasts.

It's very similar to what's happening at BMW M. Andreas P. says, in defense of this new car no longer being based on the proven Metzger GT1 engine, "It is DFI, but we have made it to have an uneven, lumpy idle" to suggest raciness. This is the same as BMW going to a noise-muffled TT V8 for the new M5, and then playing an artificial engine soundtrack through the car's speakers for an immersive, "authentic" racy engine sound. One can only expect the new M3 to be the same.

Rear-wheel steering? Many manufacturers have tried it in the past, with varied success. The GTR comparison is valid. Clearly they are using this because the new car is bigger, and likely felt bigger in a negative way until they added the rear steering.

20" wheels? Marketing BS. They're chasing trends. If this car were designed for enthusiasts who regularly hit the track, Porsche would have stopped at 19" wheels.

Well, hopefully a lot of wealthy people who just like to pose around town will snap this new one up, and then maybe prices for the 997.2 GT3 on the used market will come down to the reach of us mortals. So, I guess I'm happy.
Dead on mate, totally agree

That idle comment is just pure

I will also add that 20 inch wheels is indeed absurd. Performance tire selection in 20 inch sizes is horrible. And I would run at least extreme summers on that car

I dunno... I mean, the new GT3 looks great. But after putting a 991 S with sport PASM and PDK through the paces... I mean, it was _really_ good. The GT3 is going to cost what - $30k more than a 991S with equivalent options. The 991S was so good Porsche might have elevated the "regular" car to a point where the GT3 is less attractive.

That would be really cool. I'm sure it would result in a few burnt clutches though.

I wish my E92 M3 7 speed could clutch manually by pulling on both pedals like the new GT3. Perhaps someone can figure out how to modify the firmware?

not sure about how you configured a 991s but mine got up to 128k...and id definitely rather pay 10k more for a much better car all around.

its not just about numbers. its about the engineering feats that porsche has accomplished. in a way, the new gt3 is like our M3s. its not the fastest in the world, or the most comfortable, but it drives amazingly. im sure the new gt3 will be amazing and drive better than anything porsche has ever made. the initial reviews already say that its better than the gt3 rs 4.0....
