e90 Idle control valve

I have read many threads here about the Idle control valve issue. I went to my SA and asked him about it and he said that it doesn't show up on his system to change the ICV.

Do I just wait for it to fail? Is there anyway to have them fix it 'proactively'
2008 6mt e90 I have 19k miles and warranty till end of next year.

I'm in the same boat. My warranty will be up early next year and I can tell that I'm gonna need one eventually. What's the problem with it exactly? Can it be cleaned (like the ICV on the E30) or repaired?
