I also came from an e46 to the e92 (via a Z4 e85 then e89 both traded) apart from getting rid of my smile on my face each time I drive my pride and joy no issues at all.
Happy motoring when you get yours PS. mind you I do miss my e46 then that is water under the bridge.

Since I bought it brand new in 2008,
1) had battery replaced after about 3.5yrs. had front rotors replaced just 1 day before the 4 yr warranty finished and no charge for me. 2) had the steering angle sensor replaced just 1 month after 4 yr warranty expired and luckily I bought an extended warranty when I bought the car otherwise it's a little over a thousand for this. 3) right side brake light bulbs were loose causing brake light warning came on and off. I readjusted the bulbs myself and no problem since. I searched about this and it's quite common. 3) now my car is at the dealer as of right now waiting for the DME unit to be replaced (covered by my extended warranty but I have to pay $100 deductible but it's better than paying for more than a thousand for this). If this M3 keep having problems, I will trade it in for.......not sure what. I love this M3 but the electronic control stuffs keep failing and they are costly to replaced (not to mention the safety issues if the electronic control things suddenly fail and causing accident). I will update my list if more problems arise. My car has Active Autowerke pulley with belts, AFE intake (the one that works with the original intake box), Eibach springs, and Borla exhaust. I do not believe any of these mods has anything to do with any of the above problems. ???any thoughts?? The battery died in 3.5yrs might have something to do with my key placed too close to my garage and my M3 has the keyless entry thing. Now I keep my car key far away from the garage. I would say that the idle control valve is a prominent issue that has hit quite a few cars including mine (at around 43k miles).

Is this the big end bearings? Do you know the OEM part number for the idle control valve? Thanks. |

Rear differential bolt snapped, diff nearly fell out, and had entire differential replaced under warranty (mods are light/bolt on and no aggressive launching/overrevs)..this is for a 2011.5 E90M3. Did quite a bit of research into this, and while arguably not a "common" problem, there were several complaints of the exact same issue (count at least 15 from historical message boards). Also had both front EDC struts replaced (think that was due to construction around my building, which made the road extremely rough), also covered under warranty.

if you had any more info like the others have asked that would indicate or be symptoms of this problem too. my car is coming out of warranty soon, and there is some serious low speed creaking, especially when making tight turns/parking...i wonder if its the bushings?

Catastrophic engine failures are rare. Every now and then when i see one here ,it usually involves a car equipped with a MT and/or with a supercharger that saw a lot of track time.

Noticeable problems so far: 1. Never been able to save XM station presets ( I save, then back out and then they are gone when I come back) 2. Seat belt helper (When the car is happy it gives it to me, when its mad, it says FU!) When its freezing cold outside, the helper might not even come out. 3. My passenger mirror all of the sudden throws itself out of whack and I have to reset it to a normal viewing position. 4. The ski bag holder clips are broke so now it never stays in the seat like it should. (was like that when I bought it used) 5. A bit of scuff marks by the IDrive knob on the plastic center console (was like that when I bought it, have since bought a new one and wrapped in carbon fiber to match the carbon fiber trim, looks much better!) 6. Slight wear on my upper part of my steering wheel on the backside of it All this stuff is very minimal in my opinion. The most annoying thing the passenger mirror going crazy. Other than that I can live with the rest. Nothing mechanical, transmission, or brake wise has gone wrong. Very solid for how many miles are on it.

What does the "cowbell" sound like? I drove an e90 6MT today and it had a metallic pingpingpingping sound, which I thought was a heatshield. Is that the "cowbell?"

'11 E92 29k miles. Only issues I've experienced is:
1: Seat belt extenders on both sides replaced under warranty 2: Driver & Passenger underseat subs died. replaced under warranty 3: Squeal/grinding noise from rear diff. Changed to new diff fluid under warranty 4: Lighting control module died causing blinkers, windows, headlights and side mirrors to stop working. Replaced under warranty. The car also got coded by the dealership with the most up to date software. This deleted my ECU & DCT tune...now I'm back to stock. I've had every mod listed in my sig when I took my car in and never had any issues with warranty. (Knock on wood! Lol) |

Did they ever diagnose the issue with the catastrophic failure?

Is it a REAL issue or just an annoyance? I'd guess the latter.
Thanks for the information as it is tough to gauge what is "normal" from some CarMax cars. |

Issues i've had with my 2009
1. dct lag .. 3 software updates and about a year later it was resolved 2. gas cap replaced under warranty due to faulty seal 3. oil cap replaced under warranty due to faulty seal (still did not fix it).. leaked oil at high rpms 4. brake light malfunction... bulbs come loose over time (non LCI tails).. there was a TSB on it but it had not solved it.. 5. iDrive complete failure.. happened about 2x a month. I think the main unit was overheating but BMW could never replicate 6. Battery dead after 3.5-4 years 7. Seat belt extenders do not hold seatbelt anymore with age.. useless feature anyways IMHO Issues i've had with my 2013 none so far.. I did notice they redesigned the gas cap and oil cap however |
