I track my car's value on KBB and Car Gurus regularly, and lately it's been indicating huge bumps in value every month. Like, to the point where I have to double-check that I'm entering everything correctly.
Seems like E9X's were very slowly creeping up in value and suddenly the flood gates opened, especially for well kept, near-OEM examples. Feels to me that these cars were kind of "hiding in plain sight". Everyone knows them and there was lots of talk of them one day being a future collectible, but not much happened with valuations, until it suddenly did. Reminds me a bit of F1's back in the day. For years F1's sat on dealer lots for months at around $2MM. Then suddenly the market just exploded and now you see the insane valuations of today. 993s were a similar story. Realize that it's a very different class of car and I'm not predicting anything similar for M3's, but the scenario feels familiar. |

I thought the increased KBB prices were because EAG had sold a few of their high priced cars, but they do not report their sale prices to anyone. They are just going up!

I watch Los Angeles CL posts daily, and the other factor here is people are trying to get 20-40k for (nice) E36s(!) and E46s recently.
In my mind, at least, the E92 is superior in many (not all, but most) ways, and it doesn't make sense that the same model, but 2-13 years older is worth more. So I would think if the previous generations are actually selling for that much, it would affect the E92 price as well. |

Original owner [2012 64K miles]...after taking the 'new car' depreciation bath, really good to see the value moving in the right direction.
Although, have no intention to ever sell it.

When the used market starts exceeding the price I paid new, then I'll pay closer attention.

I see a ton more sports cars around. I'm thinking people are working from home more and don't need a commuter car, so might as well get something fun. They're not gonna be around forever.

Inflation, extra cash in pockets currently and few cars. I'd rather they stay on the cheap side. I'm not trying to profit from my car. Also would like to pickup another one someday without paying Porsche price.
These are nice cars, but few are collector spec. But it being a mass market car that's still thousands of collector spec. People are dreaming a lot. I'm sure none of the owners would find themselves ever buying at the astronomical future prices being predicted. |

It's mainly E90's. And of the E90's, it's the 6MT's.
I was browsing recent BAT listings and there are atleast 3-4 very clean E92 M3's 6MT with sub 50k miles ranging 35-40k. There was a DCT with 14k miles that was 39k. 39k for a 14k mile DCT E92 ZCP is great IMO. Now had that car been a sedan with a manual transmission, and 14k miles.... it would have gone for 60k or more. My E90 I got in July 2019 with 62k miles. It's an October 2011 build (last month production) loaded ZCP and DCT. I snagged it for 27k. I felt like it was a 30k car at the time and have since done my bearings and TA's. KBB estimated it is a 32k car now with 72k miles. Had I been able to find a 6MT it may be worth 40k today. So short answer no prices on "E9x" are not skyrocketing (as seen on the recent DCT 14k mile example) but certain ones are (mainly 6MT E90's). I do suspect though that in another 5-10 years even the low mile E92 DCT cars will creep up to 60k or more. The time to buy a low mileage E90 6MT was yesterday. But there is still time to wait for the right E92. |

What do you think a 6sp ZCP '13 with <1k miles would go for? Asking for a friend...

Sheesh, right now? I wouldn't be surprised to see something like that, if it was truly mint, $65-75k.

Lots of factors to consider here - the fact that these cars are really a blast, growth in the automotive community, youtube popularity, a naturally aspirated legend of a powerplant, a strong enthusiast community that cars for and maintains these cars....For all those reason, our e9'x are becoming classics right before our eyes.

I feel like I got my e90 6MT just at the right time. I barely see them coming up for sale anymore. The S65 makes these cars truly special at a time when the internal combustion engine as we know it is well on its way to becoming a fossil. I love that the M3 flies under the radar for most, but I always appreciate the reactions I get from people who know what's under the hood.

Car prices in general have been increasing. I've been looking to buy a Porsche 997.2 TTS and now they're creeping over $100k with 25k+ miles. On the other hand, I have a 2011 ZCP E90 M3 ZCP with just under 16k miles that could help bridge that gap if I was to sell.

The same is true in the real estate market right now. Buying a house in Los Angeles is wild right now. All cash offers going hundreds of thousands over asking with 20+ offers in the table for modest 3+2 1,200 sq/ft homes. |
