lost a nut for the intake manifold e92 m3

i seem to have lost one of the bolts on top of the intake manifold. it was probably lost when i took the car in for some warranty work. as it happen about a year ago and i only noticed it recently and i can't bring it back to the dealer for a replacement. i checked with bmw and they say they don't sell this nut separately and i would have to buy the whole intake manifold again which costs alot of money for just one missing bolt.

i've attached a stock picture with the highlighted part in a green

anyway if anyone comes across this nut and/or when you don't need a stock intake manifold due a supercharger mod please let me know

You'd be better off ordering. There is no reason why you would need to remove those in the first place.

If the dealer messed it up confront them. There is no reason that they should have even messed with that.

It's kinda funny that someone brings this up. Those 2 bolts are just holding the intake plenum down right, or am I mistaken? I don't know about the rest of you, but for my car those two bolts were completely covered in loctite. Of course I didn't know this at the time, and when I tried to remove them the bolt heads broke.

So seeing this thread spiked my curiosity, since both of you said that there would never be a reason to remove those bolts.

1.) Why would they ever loctite bolts on the intake plenum?

2.) If not to remove the plenum, what are those bolts for?

My curiosity might have gotten the best of me, but being that this is my 1st vehicle with ITB's, I wanted to see them.

The manifold is two pieces molded together. Those bolts are never touched to remove the manifold. You unbolt the manifold from the throttle bodies themselves.

Tech, why use those bolts at all then? Do they hold the two pieces together during the molding process or something?

Tech is right, those two bolts just hold the two pieces together. That is why they are locked tie from the factory. The intake is held up by 8 individual clamps that are tight to the throttle bodies. You loosen the 8 clamps and pull up on the intake.

Haha yea I figured as much, theres no reason for the bolts to be in the center of the plenum. Oh well, it stays how it is then till I customize a new one. Thx for the info guys

thx for the replies. But I can't go back as I don't remember when it happened and never really noticed it until recently. I checked with BMW and they do not sell just the bolt alone as it does not come with a part number. You have to buy the whole cover. Which is kind of silly on my part to spend hundreds of dollars on a bolt.

It looks like the bolt is more decorative than anything else (I hope). I was hoping that with the folks that supercharge their cars they would replace the manifold and have no need for the OEM one and would be willing to give up the bolt.

The other option I was thinking is maybe look for wrecked m3s that are being parted out-but they are kind of rare up here in toronto.

My dealer has covered little parts that popped off under warranty before. Including my rear M3 badge. so maybe try that route first.

My guess is that since there are two pieces molded together, these serve as a backup to hold it together.

Usually the issue is that the stud snaps off when someone tries to remove those. A replacement nut doesn't fix that.
