I would love a Viper! I just don't think I could afford one nor have I done any research on their reliability or longevity. Really what I want most is a 6mt e60 m5 but it's got 4drs and I just don't need that. The nice thing about the ragtop v10 m6 is that you can fit people in the backseat while still having a memorable convertible experience. But I will definitely add the Viper to my research list.

And just like member Richbot stated, soon the v10 cars will be gone or destroyed and then I'll never get the chance to experience one. I have to admit though, the e63 m6 drop top is just not as pretty as our e9x m3s, and i dont want crappy chasis rigidity either but that v10 though...

I wouldn’t buy one as a long term keeper car because of the vanos issues, but if you want to try it out for a year and then get out before anything catastrophic occurs I’d go for it. I miss the engine in my e60 M5, just not the SMG trans. Some light exhaust mods on that with the top down... sheesh, hard to think of anything more fun than that for a weekend only car.

Never driven or ridden in a Viper but I imagine it’s a pretty epic experience too.

Consider V10 M6 Coupe which has better structural rigidity than convertible AND only weighs around 200 lbs or so more than e9x M3.
Maybe then sell your e90 for a lighter convertible...

Maybe the m6 hardtop coupe is the way to go but i would have to sell the m3 for the m6 since I have the a4 for daily duty. Honestly,, I should have gotten a convertible a4(a3)?

The most recent Vipers are the only ones that sound half-way decent IMO. Before that they sound pretty truckish and broken, pretty much the same criticism as the S55, it sounds "cool" like two UPS trucks racing up the street, but not "good"

The last generation either had enough revs or they'd done something with firing order or just tuned the exhaust enough that they sound pretty neat IMO. They also seem (from reviews, I've only been in a 2g) that the 3g has the feeling of more than just an engine with a car bolted loosely to it...that's definitely the sense you get from the earlier cars, the motor calls all the shots and it only has big tires on it because it would immediately end up in a tall tree otherwise

New Supra when it comes out? Powered by BMW.. might be closer to $55k but nothing beats new... just add a few years to the payments

I would love to experience a newer viper for sure, but that Supra with the B58 in it definitely intrigues me..

I would love to experience a newer viper, but I'm not sure how I'd go about doing that. The new Supra with the B58 In it definitely intrigues me...that may be out of my price range because the M is used for fun and NOT for family duty

I've driven a previous gen Viper and it is truly incredible how it feels like a giant RC car built by yourself. Completely loose and terrifying.
The newest one is really nice though... would love to have an ACR for track days although it isn't needed.

Loose and terrifying are a good way to describe it, but theres a lot of other feelings to boot. My step-dad owned a 3rd gen and I can't even explain how much fun I had driving that car. Was it uncomfortable, full of loose plastic, and hot as hell from the heat from that v10 eminating to the cabin, you can bet your left nut on it! But nothing can beat stepping on it in 3rd and still breaking the rears loose and fighting for control lmao! I was sad to see him sell it, would love one of my own one day. Not to mention that the exterior turns every head driving down the road.

I'll always love the Viper, just that it'll be the most recent version. It's also clear that with more seat time my feelings would change and be like 'cool'.

A new viper sounds and looks quite awesome but also rather expensive. Older viper sound terrifying but are definitely something I may just look into. What's the maintainence cost like on an older viper?
