After the update, engine seems very different. Updated from 200E.

Cold start is much smoother, the engine braking changed dramatically (on/off the accelerator seems smoothed out, less jolt). Occasional overrrun pop with 200E seems to be gone entirely. Rawness lost for refinement.

Haven’t been to the track yet.

Shame you weren't able to use MSSFlasher. That incredible, dare I say heroic push by people like Terraphantm is a before and after in the S65 world. Its true effects will not be fully understood for a while, but they are starting to trickle into the light.
The days of people buying """tunes""" that disable knock control, disable adaptations and other stupid things are going to come to an end and the S65 community will be better off.

I have an BMW INPA K+CAN cable laying around - would you recommend me purchasing the bimmergeek cable for safety purposes? I am not sure of the differences between the cable I have the bimmergeek Pro K+DCAN cable.

I would do it. It is not worth risking your ECU

Listen to Shadow, get the bimmergeeks cable. I have an perfectly good dcan cable that is capable of coding. Bimmergeeks seems to do everything twice as fast.

I built a power supply from a regulated cb radio power supply and 4 gauge copper jumper cables. Disconnect anything that can draw power prior to coding (after market amps, radar detector). I was surprised at the amp draw for this car.

I used a 75amp regulated power supply at 14.5-14.6V.

I am so happy to see people are doing the right thing and i am glad to be part of it. We are going to overwrite all the bad stories with the good one as much as we can. And DME is one of the major part of it!

It's great to see progress in tuning being made! Coming from a 335i with a N54 it is a night and day difference with the lack of tuning advancements for the S65. I was, and still am, amazed how it is common practice to use generic off the shelf tunes with zero data logging. Hopefully someday we will see similar capabilities with this DME.

I went down the canned tune rabbit hole.

Lesson learned. And yes, here is hoping some advancements are made.

Cheers,

What utility are you using to reset adaptations?

I am using INPA from bimmergeeks standard bmw tools. Most of the menu's are in German. all the instructions I found indicate the adaptations can be cleared from the error memory menu, however in the bimmer geeks version, DME adaptations has its own sub menu and in there you can clear individual attributes like lambda, vanos, ICV, Etc. or you can clear all. I used the tuner software I have to clear adaptations just so I can get it done, however, I would like to safely clear them within the BMW tools.

I successfully flashed the 241e update and just wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else. Here are the steps I had to take.

installed bimmergeeks standard bmw tools.
retrieved the latest daten file for my car(e89.rar in this case which is for the e9x chasis) and unzipped the file.
opened bmw coding tool first, clicked the daten source button to point to the daten file I unzipped
then set the default paths for winkfp, ncsexpert, ediabas
next, click the button to update winkfp daten source. this appears to add the ecu families to winkfp for the chasis contained in the daten files. this was most important for me as it allowed me to launch winkfp without error.
Closed bmw coding tool
Opened winkfp
Selected>comfort>update ecu and selected mss60 in the popup that comes up.
After selecting ecu, click “enter vin” button and enter cars vin.
Next click done, back on the main winkfp screen, click Prog. ZB_update. You will be asked to confirm the update.
The rest of instructions were the same as what Sangria created in the beginning of this thread. Thanks SaNGRia for the instructions. I feel more confident running on the latest stock bmw firmware vs running on a stock tune map which is important to me to keep my warranty intact for my engine.

One last thing i still was not sure on was clearing adaptations. I attempted to use inpa, however, i wasnt sure what to clear. bimmer geeks standard bmw tools with inpa is mostly in german and the menus looked a bit different than what is shown on other diy's. When i use the adaptations menu, i have the open of clearing all or individual adaptations like the icv, vanos, etc. I've read on other forums that clearing things such as vanos adaptations as caused issues so i was hesitant to do that. Would it be easier through ncsexpert?

ISTA is the best place to do adaptations but i never did adaptations. S65 is pretty smart engine. DME and S65 after the SW update adapts itself with the BMW protocols that is written on the SW.

The ECU adjusts quickly in most cases. I had weird behavior that caused the ECU to remain in low octane mode (89-91 oct), I reset adaptations to speed up the process (93 oct)is standard here.

Whenever I ran a half/half (93 and 100 oct), the ECU would adjust incredibly fast.

I was trying this and kept getting a UIF 209 error any thoughts on how to fix this?

Was running in comfort mode. Using pro cable from bimmergeeks too.

Details of error:
"Error in Ediabas or in ecu description file (SGBD) IFH-003 Datatransmission to interface disturbed 10FLASH"
"Error in Ediabas or in ecu description file (SGBD) SG_AIF_LESEN"

Make sure your cable set correctly. Check the Latency Time make sure it is set to "1" then make sure winkfp set like this :

Thanks Sangria! I had figured it out it was the latency timer on the com port. Car definitely feels better!
