Is 255/40/18 ok for 18 x 9.5in?

Have a screw in a rear tire which is not repairable,
I am getting new PS4S rear tires , 285.

Tire shop says the 265 front PS4S is back ordered.
They have 255s in stock and the said can work.
Is this advisable? I am concerned about more understeer with this set up but I can't wait forever for new tires.

On the rear i have 18x10.5 tire is 285/35.

You are saying on the front 18x9.5 I can do 275/40?

Thanks Kevin! You helped me with the Titan 7s back in 8/2019.

Sorry missed the part that it was for the front. 265/35/18 is the right size to go with. If you are a 18x9.5 et 22 a 275/35/18 also works but might need a small spacer up front.

Track people use 255's on a 9.5 and even a 10 all the time when that's the biggest size that fits under their fender, but more wheel will still fit.

But I agree I'd just get a 265 or 275/35
