What is the best available hd carcam/ dash camera on the market.
Is the GOpro the one or are there better ones out there. Also would like the camera to be able to record while car is parked & off. Thanks

Check out Blackvue. I've used two of their cameras and they are great.

Personally I have a Contour GPS using a CruiseCam headrest mount. Gives a great view of the interior of the car including the dash... so you can see what's going on inside the car, too.

Really though it comes down to what you want to do with the cam other than just driving. Me, I do some downhill biking and motorcycling as well... so the Contour is a better match for me. Especially on the motorbike it's much easier to operate with gloves on. A good friend of mine scuba dives a lot as well, so he runs a GoPro because the waterproof cases for that are much better and the form factor better matches what he wants to film. If all you're going to use the cam for is in the car, you can pretty much go with any cam solution.

If you're using the camera to record instances of accidents and need it for insurance claims, Blackvue, ITV100, etc. Most of them are Made in Korea or China.

A wealth of information here -->http://dashboardcamerareviews.com/

If you want to record while the car is parked, engine off, you may need a power magic pro. It cuts off power supply to the camera at a pre-set voltage. I think at about 11.3v, you won't be able to fire up the engine.

There is no best but only the one that meet your needs. There are hundreds of suppliers in this field and you can have many choices, GoPro and Blackvue are well-known, but the prices maybe not acceptable to you if you are not going to invest much on it. Have a search online before purchase.

I recently did a full install video on my F30 335i, but I do talk about the dashcam and the features that they have (THINKWARE FA200). I also have a VIOFO A119 in my M3 (since I don't drive it on a regular basis, I put the older model in the M3)
