Mine is an LCI from March 2010 with 120.000km on the clock (75.564 miles), so I didn't expect them to be that brittle.

Took the opportunity to check the weight before installing the hubs:
OEM: 11g (0,38oz)
Slonik: 23g (0,81oz)

Noted that the vanos spring needs to be tight against the vanos plate. The first attempt to mount the hub cover resulted in the tabs not engaging - similar to what the OP experienced. Before the 2nd attempt I pushed the vanos spring against the plate, now all the tabs clicked in place. Made a clip to illustrate:

Both covers cracked upon removal

Bank 2 done
Nice input and video clip Nicke! Proper "snap-on" design, gives good confidence.

For anyone interested, I could have another 8 covers available to ship in the next couple of days. I will fulfill my GB orders first (package due delivery today).

Please message me if you have interest in a set. 525 shipped and insured, delivery in a couple of days from me in FL. I know it's not BF pricing but it's the best I can do. I need at least 4 commits before I pay up front for the remaining covers. Thanks

Just to be super extra certain. Since this solution is simply a clip on the engine does not have to be re-timed, correct?

Correct. No touch on the vanos itself.

So something interesting I've noticed, and I may need more time to confirm that this is indeed it.

I've had that issue where if I let the car sit for a few days or sometimes just overnight, on the the initial startup, I get a rattle for a few seconds- that everyone claims is normal. Supposedly just oil pressure building in the vanos system.

However, ever since I've had the slon covers installed, it has completely and totally stopped. Hasn't happened once. There was someone else on facebook who installed the carbahn covers, and mentioned the same thing. The startup rattle was completely gone after replacing the vanos covers.

I'm now awfully suspicious that the startup rattle that people all claim is normal is actually a symptom of vanos covers that are starting to fail.

Would be curious if anybody else noticed something similar.

I have received tracking but it doesn't show that it's left Russia as yet.

Interesting, I had the rattle as well. I'll be starting my car in a few days here and will report back, however it did get much better after a fresh oil change.

I'd suspect no, international shipping is like totally rolling the dice. My first group buy box came in 4 days from Russia, the second one took nearly 6 weeks. Luck of the draw lol

Might be that the Carbahn washers and Slonik covers just allow oil to get to the VANOS gears/springs faster than the stock plastic covers. Anyhow nice bonus benefit of the Slonik covers.

High volumes of oil is not needed or desired at this Vanos spring. Some oil is provided from the central hub of the rotor face, from inside the covers. Oil here has absolutely zero effect on noise, these parts don't move. Cover condition has no bearing on noise.

However, other serviced components within this job scope could cause positive effects on noise.
