Probably a good idea. I've spoken to Ian a couple times about this and he definitely knows what he's doing. You wouldn't be their first.

Mind sharing price?

PM'ed the quote numbers to you. Don't want to make the prices public in case the shops' rates change.

thanks, notouching for the reco! decided to get mine done at IS Garage which was difficult because I've only ever used G2 in the past, but i'm very impressed and happy with the results. either shop would do a great job, for sure, but i decided to try IS for a bit of a change (and b/c they also come highly recommended):

2008 e90 M3
60,500 miles
Daily driver but drive 5-7 miles per day... lots of short, city (stop & go) driving.
I always let her warm up for ~1 min then go slow until the oil comes up to temp.

Replaced with BE bearings and ARP bolts. The OEs looked pretty decent from the shot above, but all were worn near the top and edges... and pretty bad. I grabbed a few close-ups below. My last two blackstone analyses showed "higher-than-average" levels of lead in oil samples so I decided to just get this done along with OE motor mounts:

Congrats on the newly acquired peace of mind!
I am going to get this job done at IS in the next couple of weeks.
Your car is an 08 with the softer bearings, so for you the Blackstone reports were helpful.
The report for my car showed perfect numbers, but that means nothing since mine is 2012.
Will update the thread with the report on my car once the job is done!

Hey sansin, could you post your Blackstone analysis? I'm curious what your lead levels were at as well as other metals.

I think the easiest method would be to use Snipping Tool and just post as an image.

You could also just open the PDF and fit it to your screen, then hit Ctrl-PrtScn to take a screenshot of your screen. Then if you open a program like Paint or Paint 3D you can paste it as a new image. It will be an image of your entire screen so if you want you could crop it around just the document. Then save it as a jpeg or bitmap image.

duh. thanks, guys. the comments from the first test:

Letting the engine sit before taking the sample is just fine. Sampling an engine right after it's been started then shut back off might result in mild fuel dilution. We didn't find any fuel in this sample, or any other contamination like dirt or coolant. Wear metals look good for the most part too, but we are a little concerned about lead at 15 ppm. That amount of bearing wear isn't much higher than average, but it is a little odd to see lead sitting so far above other metals. Universal averages show typical wear after 5,600 miles on the oil. Check back in 3,000 mi for another look.

Most recent test is below which was only ~1,000 mi from the last test... I was starting to hear a little chatter at idle and it felt a little rough at cold start. Probably just being paranoid, but she's a ton smoother at start up and idle now:

Thanks! Strange that your lead levels dropped back down below average on the second test but I would guess that could still be considered high since that average level is based on 5500 miles and yours had only been run for 1000.

Dropped off my car this morning at IS Garage.
There is a supercharged e92 m3 there getting bearings done as well, anyone from here?

Will report on the state of my old bearings and my impression of the work done next week when I get the car back.

Just picked up my car from IS Garage.
I can't tell any difference in car feel compared to before the bearings change.
Maybe the idle is slightly smoother now, but that's likely due to new motor mounts.
See condition of my old bearings here:

To me they don't look too terrible, but glad I did this for peace of mind anyway.

Your old bearings look pretty good.

I will be changing mine in the next few weeks, to BE bearings and Carrillo bolts. Doing it myself, as I have the necessary equipment. My car is an 08 w/72k miles on it. It had 40k when I bought it in 2012, and I autocrossed it heavily for 3 years. My Blackstone reports have always been good, so I am expecting to find decent conditions, but won't be surprised if otherwise.

Just had mine done last week from AR auto service in Portland, OR. Here is a post about the condition of the old bearings I posted in the rod bearing tracking thread.

What was the cost? I was thinking of making my RB replacement appointment, but Lake O is a pain in the arse for me. Did you have anything else done at the same time?

The labor was exactly 1680 for me. They suggested I replace the oil pan bolts, oil pick-up tube gasket and o-ring. I didn't have those parts on hand so it was a bit extra. They also charged me a bit for the break in oil they used.

All in all it was about 1800 if you source the bearings, rod bolts, oil pan gasket, 9 liters of oil and a oil filter yourself.

They did a great job. I'm really happy with the service.

At this point my quotes are several months old, they might be irrelevant.
I'd call shops and see what they charge.
