congratulations
although, purchasing something on your own is far more rewarding. my rents got me a 911 Carrera 4 when I was 17. It has 17k original miles on it. The car was never abused raced or anything dumb. I turned 22 and got my first REAL job and paid off my E46 M3 in under 2 years. Nothing like owning something yourself. Mazel tov and drive safely!

To the OP, Congrats on the car! Enjoy it as it is probably the best car in the world to learn how to drive well on. From its perfect balance to instant power delivery, you will find yourself in true bliss while behind the wheel. I highly recommend getting a driving instructor to show you the rope from the very beginning, so as you do not build any bad habits while attempting to learn on your own.

Okay...either your parents are complete idiots (don't look too much into it), or they completely trust you.....or want to get rid of you. I mean, nothing says mommy and daddy want a little alone time like buying their only son an M3. Congrats! Enjoy! And more importantly, be safe!

You guys realize this thread is 2 years old, right? This guy is now 18, haha.
As for 16th Birthday gifts, I can't complain about this kid. My dad purchased me a Tag Heuer 1800 Series, some Oakley sunglasses, and then rented a paintball field for me and my buddies for a day. I didn't get my license until I was 18, but before I even had my driver's license, I had a 1996 328iS (I turned 18 in 2004), so it's nice to have a BMW for your first car. I hope he's enjoyed it responsibly and drove with dignity and safety.

There was a kid here in CA, whose dad beat out this kid's dad. When I returned from a business trip last month and picked up my car from Airport storage at the dealership, there was a 16 year old kid who was getting a brand new 2011 Frozen Black M3 that his dad bought him. It was not even one of the 19 that they released as a limited edition, so I know that kids dad paid a pretty penny. Lucky bastard!

Don't worry about the haters....Enjoy!
If any of us could have gotten a car like an M3 at the ripe age of 16 we all surely would have. Good luck. |

I personally think that an M3 is to much car for a 16 year old that just got their license with no driving experience. Not trying to hate but I'm being honest. When I was that age my parents helped me with my first car purchase even though they could have bought me an M3 if they wanted to as well. I think it was a learn responsibility thing. Damn responsibility!
Congrats, good luck and enjoy. You have a beautiful car so make sure you take care of it and appreciate what you got. |

Well my friend you are very lucky, when I was 16 years old I got the use of my fathers bicycle mind you those were different times back then (I am 4.6 times your age).
I wish you all the best with what is I am sure your dream car. I like to just pass on to you that this car needs to be treated with respect and caution. I know that you know this since you mentioned that you are a very calm individual. So best of luck and happy motoring. PS. My salesman (sold me my former Z4 e85) always drove an M3, last year he lost his life at 28 overtaking a car on a wet street on his way to see his girlfriend. The rear end gave away according to the eyewitness. Since he was a avert track driver ... now the dealership has a yearly track meet to remember him by for he was a very nice fellow and certainly too young to leave us. This is why I mentioned treat your car with respect for it has hidden powers that one needs to know and respect.
