updated oil filter housing cap?

I read in another thread that the original housing caps can leak. I'm getting a parts order ready and figured would add this one for $30-$40, but wasn't sure if this is a good thing to do as a preventive measure or if it isn't actively leaking, just leave it alone?

I've got a 2010 coupe, production date of 10/2009.

When I searched on Real OEM, I only see one part # of 11427838009. No info. on anything superseding that so couldn't tell if this was some updated version or the original.

Ive heard of oil filler caps leaking. I have not seen it on the filter housing. Ive got an 08 and mine is still holding up with no leaks. The nice thing about its design is it does not seem prone to leaking. Ill let others chime in in case they had issues.

Agreed on the fill cap vs. the housing cap... I wish I could find that old thread as I was 90% sure if was related to the housing cap... but maybe I'm not remembering correctly.

Some cars have an additional piece on the oil filter housing. I believe they changed the torque spec on the filter housing cap later on.

Some of the earlier years now have a "thing" that prevents it from becoming loose or something. It looks like one of those plastic child proof things you fit over a door knob so a baby can't turn it... some have it, some don't. If you aren't leaking, don't lose sleep over it.

I thought the "updated" design was just adding colour to the cap lol. Cause I didn't notice any difference otherwise on my friends car

Yes, the "anti rotation lock cap":

Apparently my car is missing it, assuming it was there to begin with. I don't see any signs of any leaks since I've had the car.

The oil cap seal is solely based on the Oring. If it leaks, then most likely the Oring isn't OEM.
