Alpine stage 1 and 2, dyno tune numbers 2010 DCT E90

Stage 1
I just got my post tune dyno done today, been driving around with this tune for about 1000 miles
I live in Washington and occasionally drive down to CA so Alex gave me 3 octane files for 91, 92, 93. WA has 92
Good numbers IMO, the only thing that has changed from the first to last dyno pull is adding the tune.
Everything else is a stock intake, OEM filter, stock exhaust except iPE F1 muffler
318 to 342 HP
241 to 254 torque
AFR didn't show on the graph but shop told me it was 13.2

Just to add, I've had the car flashed since Dec 28, 2017, Dec 27 was the last day it was on a stock file. I had it flashed to 93 octane because I forgot to remind Alex we only have 92 here and I was about to do a road trip to NorCal the next day. So I drove with 93 octane file on 92 fuel from WA for however long it took me to get to Weed, CA, that was 2 fuel stops of 92. I had 91 file in my computer but I didn't reflash at all between 91 or 93 octane on my 2500 mile total trip because I didn't want my wife in the car bitch about "THE CAR IS BROKEN WE'RE STUCK AT THE GAS STATION". So I drove from Weed, CA on 91 octane with 93 file. Drove around Norcal for 5 days on. Came back to WA. And not once did the car lack performance, throttle. No engine start hesitations, no bogging transmission, no SES lights. I've only had the car for 2 months that time from Hawaii. So that road trip was its road worthiness test. It has passed ever since. Until my battery died (5 yrs old, doesn't like warm to cold climate) on me in the middle of the road but totally separate from the Alpine flash.

looks like run#1 wasn't run all the way to redline but you can still see the delta and gains across the board nonetheless.

Could also be he got the 8600 RPM redline with the tune.

It comes with the file purchase from Alpine. He gives you the cable, instructions, used my windows laptop. And I just asked for those files. Takes about 10-15 min to change files. If I wanted the burble tune as well, I can get it.

I've been running his 93 octane tune for about 8 months and I knew it ran better, but damn. That's pretty impressive. On top of that, as many others have mentioned, he is just absolutely first class to deal with. Cannot recommend highly enough. If you're on the fence, just do it. You won't be sorry.

You’d have better numbers than me for sure

91/92 The power increase isn't going to be substantial between the two to begin with.

What BMW DME software version did you have before the tune? There’s a decent power increase by just updating to the latest BMW stock software compared to older software versions.

Looks like quite a difference in the low rpm pickup, in addition to the top end.

Delayed ordering as I just got my new set of summer tires, may have to get the tune next.

Just to be totally clear, the stock run was on 92 octane, and the tuned run was on the Alpine 93 oct map, but with 92 oct fuel?

You don’t gain 25 rwhp from a tune. Something else is going on. Figure 5-10 rwhp. You can’t raise the timing target since the car can’t hit the stock 32 degrees all the time on pump gas. You can’t lean out the mixture too much either.

One of the things to consider is that HP = Torque (ftlb) * RPM *5252. Given that he is able to pull an extra 200RPM, that will increase the HP number by 2.38% if the torque at 8400 was equal to the torque at 8600. Lots of ifs here...

Since we do not know where the previous peak numbers were set (his graph did not capture RPM of the peaks), we do not know if this is part of what is happening in this case. If we assume that the peak power was at 8400 when stock, and if we assume that the torque is similar at 8600 when tuned (looks close on the chart), then just due to RPM increase, the power would be 318 * 1.0238 = 325. That is 7HP just for spinning the motor faster.

I agree though, expecting 25HP gain from a tune alone is not really reasonable with a well tuned NA engine. It would be nice if we could get the raw data vs RPM as well has the number of times each type of program was dynoed.

Cheers,

HP is flattening out with the added rpm. It’s still making power but rwhp at 8300 is within a few of rwhp at 8600.

I agree that is typical. It does look as though the torque at 8600 and 8400 is nearly the same on his chart. That is where it would be great to get the raw data.

Yes
I ran that for about 3500 miles before I asked alpine for a 92 oct file

Isn't 317whp low for a stock S65? I thought these cars were good for about 330whp stock?

All dynos are different. Tough to compare apples to oranges.

in my road trip experience, mileage on highway cruises (70-80 mph) increased from stock from 21.5 to 23-24 mpg, that was like 310-320 miles per tank to 350

Anxious for the update! Did you just swap in bypass pipes and the stage 2 flash, or anything more?
