Those bearings are absolutely F.U.K.D. for a car with 57,000 KM. Done. Toast. Finished.

This is why the discussion of mileage is meaningless. It all depends on if your car was built with good or bad tolerance stacking.

Unfortunately, even if you have large big end rod bores, thin bearing shells and a crank with small rod journals, the clearance is still going to be below the recommended 0.001 inch/inch of journal diameter published by bearing suppliers and engine builders.

Good thing you changed them!!

Exactly. There's cars out there with 140k on them with no bearing issue, that tells me this isn't a design flaw. Ppl are being scammed by YouTube videos. The only time you see uneven/excessive wear on the front baring for example is when someone has been 'modding' again, supercharging 'mods'.

I invested $3K doing mine because:

1) Decided to keep the car long term, and not to sell.
2) It was strongly recommended by the experts at BPC, they have seen a few failures.
2) Performance parts added and tune. Don't want to push it to the limit thinking my shells might brake.

It's Peace of Mind overall, that's it!
Ok it's your choice, but you're adding aftermarket parts to the heart of the engine. Tbh I don't track my car, it's just a cruiser for me, so different uses I guess
Agree, as you can see in the pic I posted in this thread my bearings weren't bad at all at 93,000 miles. I suppose for normal driving conditions I would have been ok going forward. The thing is when i turn into the Fast-n-Furious I prefer knowing those were replaced, and as I mentioned I'm planning to run my M until it rusts....if that ever happens, ha! Take care.
Me too, still waiting for my foreign title to come through, restricted to staring at it in the garage for now 😅😭

Simply do your own research, if you believe in the issue, get it done. For the ones who don't believe it, its whatever at the end of the day its your money and car, not theirs. Just wait for them to eventually post a "ISO: used S65"

My car has close to 54k miles. I am considering doing them this upcoming year just for piece of mind.

What mounts did you get? I'm contemplating getting stock mounts when doing my BE bearings. Unfortunately my order with Auto Talent is backordered for weeks

Stock mounts. $97.xx at FCPeuro. Lifetime warranty!

I called AutoTalent for bearings/bolts, they referenced a shop in the Bay Area that has some in stock. Paid for them yesterday, on the way today

PM me and I'll share details.

I had mine done last week @86k, wear was consistent with what we have been seeing on the forum. I went with vac/arp components and had a few other things addressed at the same time. For piece of mind, its worth spending the $$$

66k. Used BE bearings and BE-ARP bolts. Engine mounts are vibra-technic fast road. No detectable NVH increase

Planning to get mine done soon, currently at 72,000 miles. Need to decide BE vs VAC bearings!
Curious as to what made you go with VAC instead of BE? Does VAC bearings have extra clearance?

Thanks

Malek@MRF I believe has done about 400 or so rod bearing jobs and he recommends VAC bearings. He has a posted about an engine with 30k miles with VAC bearings and they have absolutely no wear on the bearings. I got mine replaced by Malek in mid October 2018 and so far I've done about 1000 miles since, not too much to truly see how durable they are but so far so good. No problems yet.

According to BE's measurement yes they do have a tad more clearance: http://wiki.rcollins.org/core/index....evite_Bearings

I'm sure there is more information to be searched out on the VAC (the latter shell, believe previous had OEM 702/703 dimensions?).

If you go to a shop having both at stock, I'd have a discussion with them once your old shells are out and make a decision based on their shape in combination with drive style/maintenance so far.

I spoke with Malek a few times about the s65 in general and the bearing options and my plans for the car. Vac is what he recommended. Also to note, I couldnt find a set of BE in stock when I was shopping. VAC had their kit in stock ready to go and I had it next day (pa to ny).

I dont think you can go wrong with either solution honestly.

Just replaced these with BE Bearings and BE/ARP Bolts. 2009 e90 at 62.5k miles. These were the lead/copper bearings, pre-LCI.

The Blackstone report 500 miles before these were taken out read:

- Lead @ 3ppm
- Copper @ 9ppm

One of the motor mounts; other was beginning to tear

Tops

Probably the worst

Starting at the edge

The bearings from my 08 with 60k in 2014 looked slightly better than those. No copper yet in main wear areas, but copper showing across parting lines and down the sides a bit. I think it’s good you changed them. 60k mile bearings should not look like that. 160k mile bearings should not look like that.

I got mine done three weeks ago at SSR Performance, 2008 @ 90,000 miles, BE bearings and APR Bolts. Analysis of the bearings from the shop was what they expected and seen, nothing major but noticeable wear. Car runs, idles, and starts up a lot smoother. Definitely worth the money for anyone that is still considering.
