Thanks so much for sharing your story. And what an incredibly kind gesture from BMW! It's so awesome to see such compassion from them.
Enjoy the new motor! Cheers

Do they know about your exhaust and tune you have on there? They didn't void it out based on those mods?
Congrats nonetheless, definite WIN for you!

To the few commenters throwing BMW under the bus here for "a faulty engine design" what a bunch of privileged BS.
One case in one thread and - from a 2nd owner - who has no way of knowing if this car was properly broken in and cared for. I know there are more cases (out of thousands of M3s sold), but like swamp said above failures will happen. We should be commending BMW for goodwilling this instead of spinning conspiracy theories. It stands to reason that BMW will take good care of ///M customers, specially after the E46 problems. My E90 has 50K miles with PERFECT reliability so far and has been tracked quite a bit. If anything, this thread makes me HAPPIER to be a BMW owner and know that - if - my engine fails in the future it's likely that BMW will help me out when my car has been out of warranty for years.

I've only had to call BMWNA once. My 335 was out of warranty and all my injectors were failing. Explained my previous problems with the motor (N54) and they covered all failing injectors at no charge.
A luxury car company should treat its customers this well; and they do.

Op, congratulations!! This gives me some peace of mind after buying a 2013 M3. This is my 6th bimmer and I was really worried after reading all the threads about the rod bearing issues. Followed all the break in procedure as stated in the manual and always keep the car under 3k rpm till the oil gauge in the middle stack shows up. Despite all that, been worried about what might eventually happen.
Nway, this restores my faith in Bmw.

Aft the 1st oil change I had the tech fill up the oil sample to be sent to blackstone for analysis. My issue is it's been sitting in the car for all this time in the cold. Will that affect it in anyway and can I wait till the next oil change so I can send both samples together?

Congrats on the good-will offer and work. A lot of owners have not been so lucky with BMWNA so I hope you bought a Powerball ticket the same day Shit happens in mfg but only those of us involved truly understand this and realistically it is amazing there are not more problems with engines today. Specially considering all of the CIP (Cost Improvement Programs) goals we now have to achieve.

That's good to know BMW will possibly replace the motor...
Now I have to decide... stick with Mobil 1 0w40 oil changes every 5,000 miles? or go back to using TWS 10w60? My lead levels dropped down significantly from the normal average of 7 to 3 or 4 since switching oil. On one hand I can stick with TWS 10w60 and hope the engine lets go soon enough to have BMW replace it or I can stick with the Mobil 1 0w40 and likely not have to deal with it... but if it does happen will Mobil 1 0w40 there is no way to tell if either BMW or my extended 3rd party warranty will cover it. Any ideas? |

Wow that must have been a relief! I probably wouldn't be able to sleep at night, it's nice that bmw stepped up to the plate for you, and went above and beyond and CPOd your car

That's great! I've seen quite a few horror stories of claims getting denied, I'm really glad BMW backed their product here.
Try to get some pictures of the install for us!

At the end of the day all anyone wants is for BMW to stand behind what is TRULY a masterpiece of an automobile.
