Question Help! Oil too high

Hi guys,
I changed my oil last fall (9-10 quarts) and my oil level was at a good level up until yesterday. It is now May and the oil level reading is too high (above the max level).
I don't really drive my car much. Since then, i only put on about 3000 miles from the the last oil change. I don't drive aggressive but only here and there just to break it in and have fun.

Why all the sudden my oil level reading is too high. Anyone with this issue or know the answer to this, please reply. I don't know if i should drain out some oil.

Thanks in advance.

Could be few different things:

Thermostat stuck
Water pump
Rod bearings
Oil Pump
Bad oil temp gauge

Did you check your coolant?
How fast does it get to max heat?
Your wearing out the engine by having it run to max oil temp. I would take it to a BMW shop. Dont drive it get it towed before you blow a H/G or just damage the engine.

If you know you fully drained it and measured the refill, you're fine on volume. I will occasionally get a "too high" on my second startup following a fresh change, but it is what I call a "ghost" reading.
If it persists, it could be one of the other issues listed above.
You say you don't drive much, have you gotten the warning more than once?

No this is the first time i see this. Had the car for 3 years and never had high oil level reading before. Just noticed the issue 3 days ago.

I think i'm going to put fresh oil in there and drain the old one out. Almost time for new oli change anyway. Hope this fix the issue. Will keep u all posted. Thanks for your input. Great help guys

I would recommend replacing the oil level sensor on the outside bottom of the oil pan while you're under there. They're known to crap out randomly and give crap readings.

Rod bearing? Seriously?

I think he misread the post, haha. Sounds like he thought oil temp instead of oil level.

Thanks. I will keep that in mind. Going to get me a code scanner and scan to see if there's anything else. I hope it is just a sensor alone

Occam's razor, unnecessary variables should be excluded from any problem. Problem with reported oil level - confirm oil level, then vet the instrument responsible for reporting the oil level.

Could this be the problem that cause my oil level to read so high? I know i will get it fix but is this a concern from me driving the car?
