Looking for advice on Mileage and Superchargers

Hello everyone

I've decided that it's time to purchase a 2008 M3 Coupe. I've searched the forums and found tons of useful information while still learning the basics of the M3. I purchased a 2008 328i sedan last year after selling my Tacoma and Harley that I had for 10 years and fell in love with BMW again.(rented BMW while stationed in Europe)

I've crunched the numbers, did the research on insurance, gas, scheduled maintenance, tires, cost of parts for unscheduled maintenance and have 4 months to find what I want.

My budget: 37,000-40,000 in December

I have friends that are starting to beef up their cars and going to the track. I want a daily driver(400 miles month), something I can tinker with and take to the track. Might add a SC down the road.

I've found a few 2008 coupes that range from 45,000-75,000 miles.

If I purchased @ 70,000 and drove for 2 years, do you see an issue with putting a SC on at 100,000 miles?

What SC do you recommend for sleeper style?

Thanks

OP: I wish you well in your search for the right M3. It's a fantastic vehicle!

As for adding a SC at 100K miles, you may want to interview your Installer and potential SC suppliers for their experiences with high mileage installations. I'm sure they may have some suggestions.

Good Luck,

Chris

As with any FI setup you are shortening the life of your engine, how much shorter NO ONE CAN TELL YOU and anyone who does is simply being dishonest or delusional.

There are things you can change on the engine and beef up to help limit that accelerated aging, but that adds $$ to the equation. All in all your looking at spending almost as much on the SC and other upgrades as you are on buying the car, unless you just SC it. Whether that makes sense on a 5-6 yr old car with 100k on it is up to you. But remember, other things will go on your ///M and they are costly to fix. Got to pay to play

Btw, she is an amazing car STOCK, so if the SC doesn't make sense, don't let that stop you from getting one

Good luck and you can look for more information in the "Engine and Exhaust" section.

Cheers,

Thanks for the advice e46e92, I agree with your comments and buying with lower miles has moved up my list.

We are about 20min down I-4 from you and are a VF Engineering dealer. We have 2 E92 M3's coming to the shop in the next few weeks both getting VF620 superchargers. Come by and check us out. I would search for a low mileage M3, but as long as you maintain the vehicle properly then no worries about putting a blower on it! I can let you know once our M3's come in to check out the VF Superchargers so you can have an up close look at the kit.

I might be heading to Orlando next weekend, I would love to see and touch an ESS setup that I've been reading/dreaming about.

My Bad, I don't have a preference on what SC I like, still learning the basics.

When I started doing my research on buying an M3, adding a SC, I looked at the E46. I watched this video

Fell in love with the VF SC E92 and will own one soon

I've narrowed my search to under 40,000 miles and I feel comfortable with a SC in the 40,000-50,000 mile range.
