Need floor jack recommendations
I have a cheap floor jack that has a clearance of 4.5". It cannot get under the front jack mounts. I think my front has a clearance of about 3.9inches. What floor jacks do you guys use for lowered cars?

I have seen the reviews however I have not had any issues with it. Did you simply return it because of the reviews or did you try it and it failed? I have used it on my Tundra a few time as well as my car with no problems.

Not willing to take the chance, I returned it straight away, it was BNIB. The last thing I want when working on a car is to worry about the jack, and that would always be in the back of my mind. Quote:
http://www.harborfreight.com/rapid-p...html-7814.html Also found this, which has 3" of add'l lift on the aforementioned unit: http://www.harborfreight.com/aluminu...ons-68054.html Since I'm in the market for another jack myself, I'll have to take a look at one of these Last edited by whats77inaname; 02-05-2013 at 11:14 AM.. |

The Sears ones will all die on you. They have not been made in the US in a long time. You cannot repair them. I have been through 6 of them. I decided to finally get something good. I now use an AC Hydraulics jack. Best money spent.

Cheap, light and durable. If you're close by (I'm in Woodbury area in Irvine), more than welcome to test or borrow for a couple of days for your project.

I abused that jack to no end. I took it to the track, used it at home, outside on the street working on cars on the sidewalk, thrown in car trunks, I used it to compress suspension arms when changing out coilovers, even had a car drive over it by accident... It looked terrible but still worked the day I replaced it. For $80, it's a good deal. Every now and then you can get a great deal on it for $50 after some coupon stacking. That's a steal at that price. |

I have two of the Craftsman aluminum jacks and I don't have any significant complaints. But like so many things these days, its affordable because it's made cheaply. When I do replace mine, I have been looking at one from Griot's. I have heard really great things about it, has excellent lift range, and gets under low cars. Curious if anyone on here has any experience with it? Many people on the C6 Corvette forums have raved about it.

Just to start off with, no matter how cheap or expensive your jack is, never trust it to support the car. If you're going to be under the car, have it resting on jack stands.
With the disclaimer out of the way, I'm a believer in buying quality tools the first time and being done with it. As such I bought (and recommend) the AC Hydraulics jack. It has the best reach of any jack I've never used and it of the utmost quality. |

1. Go to Costco
2. Buy whatever low profile jack they are selling (they carry two types) I've had my Costco jack for years and it's awesome. Fits under all of our cars save for an extremely slammed E30 cabrio. I use it a lot and has never given me any issues. (disclaimer, it is heavy as phok) |

That being said, I decided to finally retire it to back-up duty and picked up one of these babies for primary track/garage use: http://www.brunnhoelzl.com/warrior_jacks.html Sweeet!
