Regarding looks, the Michelin A/S 3+ runs wider and more square than the Conti DWS 06. The Michelin looks proper, the DWS is kinda whimpy looking. I put the DWS 06 on my last M3 for the winter but wished I had gone with the Michelin, not just for looks but performance. The DWS 06 was way too soft for an M car...super comfy but no real "edge" to it.

A/S 3 is the highest performing all season, on par with some summer tires.

Garage List
In the PNW I run PSS late spring to early fall (until PS4S are available in more 18" sizes), and for the rainy cold season I run Sottozero Serie II in the same sizing on my extra set of wheels. The Sottozeros are much better in cold dry, cold wet, and snow, although lacking in feedback, damping, and stiffness vs PSS. PSS are terrible in the cold dry and cold rain, and obviously unusable in snow.

I have been happy with how my Continental ExtremeContact Sports have handled cold weather. Not awful at all, wet or dry, in the cold. Snow I have no idea, but that's something to think about at least if you're not planning on actually attempting real snow driving

I have had a couple sets of PSS and they were ... exciting in the cold below about 30. cold and wet was pretty bad. The PS4S supposedly fixed this.

if it doesn't snow, get the PS4S. If it does, the A/S3+

+100 on the A/S 3+. I've been running it on all my cars, and would only consider the DWS 06s as an alt, and they'd have to be running a better deal $$$. I had summer tires on my e46M and the few times it sprinkled snow, I couldn't get out of my driveway. Never again!

Not sure if you've already bought, but I couldn't find anywhere that had the A/S 3+s in stock when I was looking about 3 weeks ago. I had to drive all the way to Bellevue, and they were the last few in stock. Costco couldn't even order them.

I was looking at what Tire Rack calls "Ultra High Performance All Season" tires, because it does get below freezing a couple of weeks a year here in Seattle, and usually stays around 40 degrees most of the time between November and late March-April.

From having PSS on the M3 and my old BRZ, my opinion of this tire is:
- great traction when warm (60+ degrees) both on dry and wet surface
- very noisy
- low traction in temps below 50 degrees, but still driveable

I am ready to sacrifice some summer traction for comfort (even though I understand it'll still be loud since I have 19" wheels) and cold weather performance. I would rather not have two sets of tires - one for winter and another for summer - because Seattle winters are not cold enough to warrant winter tires unless going to the mountains (we still have 50+ degree days sometimes in winter).

Tire Rack is offering me to consider Continental Extremecontact DWS 06
and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. Anyone have experience with these? Any other tires I should consider?

Thank you!
Based on what you are lookin for, I’d say get DWS06..hands down

I ran A/S3+ on both my 330 ci rear wheel and my wife's Touareg. The tires are quiet, good feel, and my rear wheel dunce 330 was passing stuck suvs in the dc winter. It is a good tire.

I went Pirelli Sottozerro II winter tires on my m3 ZCP and these are a great winter setup (you will not drive the M in 5 feet of snow no matter the tire). I believe they could be driven throughout the year to be honest but will swap them out for p4s later in spring.

I vouch for Michelin as3+ over the Continental.

In the end I got a set of DWS06.
This saved me about $40 a corner compared to A/S3+.
So far I like them, was afraid that steering would become vague, but it's fine by me.
A much softer and quieter tire than PSS.
Haven't driven them in heavy rain or temps colder than 50 degrees, but I'll post once I do.

How did you end up liking them? I just bought a 2011 M3 on Saturday. The dealer installed brand new Pilot Super Sports. I'm getting ready for my first commute in my new daily and it's 28 degrees.

1. This thread is ancient.
2. I believe extreme summer tires shouldn't be run under degrees of 45F?
3. Go for an All-season if it's your daily? I really like Mich AS3+
4. Curious why your dealer still has leftover PSS and wouldn't install PS4S...

Yeah, the thread is ancient. I'm sure the guy with the tires has had plenty of time to review.

When I bought the car, I kept telling the dealer I wanted to pick the tires since it was my car. I was willing to pay any differences if that was an issue. They put on PSS. Great tire, but not for our winter. So, now I'm going to buy another set of tires and wheels next week. I'm going for the Alpin PA4.
