Wow. Good job Corvette. I feel like the US automakers and Porsche are the only ones improving upon their designs. What BMW is doing is depressing.... Have you seen how they've butchered the X5? Oh my....

Holy crap. A 991 911S is srsly fast. Didn't expect the C7 to perform THAT much better.

A next-gen BMW M3/M4 will not even be in the same league...

the C7 outrunning a 911S with PDK around willows springs is seriously impressive. i would never get a Vette without a 3rd pedal but I wonder how much quicker it'd get with a DCT tranny.

From the recent Edmunds comparison to a $145,000 991 911S with PDK...

"Steering feel and response, next to torque, are the Stingray's biggest allies. There's a confidence in the C7's steering beyond that of most every other sports car made today. Its front end sticks with intractable persistence."

Willows Springs road course.

Porsche 911 Carrera S: 1:25.6
Corvette Stingray Coupe: 1:24.6

Willows Springs is only 1.6 miles long, a 1 second gap is a real win. My bet is the C7 laps the 'Ring somewhere between 7:30 and 7:32 based on the 991 911S doing it in 7:37. That's pretty fast.
Why didnt you post the end result of the comparo?

Here it is:

"But then there's the undeniable reality that the 911 is the better car. Whether we're taking our kids to school or adding subtle countersteer to correct that big slide, we'd rather have the Porsche. It's the car that wins our hearts so it's the car that wins this test."

And no way in hell the C7 is doing the ring in 7:30-7:32. It if did, then the 991 GT3 will be around 7:00.

The regular C7 won't, but the C7 with the Z51 package will, for sure. It did VIR's Grand Course (4.2 miles) in 2:51.78, same as the ZR1, and 2 second ahead of a C6 Z06 with the Z07 package.

You are comparing apple to oranges here.

The Z51 time you quote was done BY A FACTORY CHEVY DRIVER. The times you posted were DONE BY JOURNALISTS. I bet with Walter Rohl in the GT3 the time would have been 2:50-2:51. So I doubt the Z51 time will come in at anywhere near that Chevy recorded time just for the simple fact that journalists are driving.

I still can't get over how well the Cobal SS Turbo had done a couple of years back relative to its competition. Faster lap time than 1-series, 3-series, Genesis, S2000, EVO and STI.

Be that as it may, the C7 Z51 has the gearing, horsepower, and weight to post C6 Z06 times. With time we will see more lap times, but I have little doubt in it's ability to replicate the above posted results.

Why didn't you post the rest of the comparo? Or the comparo with the Viper? Just joking around... I posted the measured stuff and substantive performance comments. The result was subjective which doesn't diminish it but the conclusion was still subjective.

Yes, Edmunds picked the 911. We'll have to wait and see how other comparisons place the two (although there is an inside scoop that MT might have the opposite conclusion but we'll have to wait). For $140,000, I think the 911 SHOULD win

As to the 'Ring time, let's wait and see. The 911S did it in 7:37, I believe. The C7 was faster at Willow, reports are faster when tested by MT, faster at VIR... so it should be faster at the 'Ring too. Maybe not a 7:31... maybe a 7:34? It will NOT be faster than the 991 GT3 but it "should" be faster than the 7:37 the 991 911S posted based on everything known today. Let's wait and see

Agreed but even add 3 or 4 seconds for normal drivers and it is faster than a lot of very fast cars at VIR.

Like the Stingray or don't but it is a very serious performance package on a track for $65k very, very well equipped. It will be, worse case, in the mid 7:30s at the 'Ring IMO... seriously fast. Besides, you can't believe Porsche's 'Ring times anyway Again... just kidding... kind of

I will compare the C7 with the z51 package to the 997.2 GT3RS very soon!!
I have a feeling that the C7 will be faster with similar tires. The 991 (nonGT3) is a nice DD car, not a track car, never was. The GT3 still will be slower than the new Z07. The last gen Z06 was as quick as the GT3 cup in the right hands.
But all this is theoretical what matter how much you enjoy them on and of track. I am planning to get the new Vette and keep he RS as the last manual GT car.
