Going from a 2011 M3 to a 2011 1M?

People make mistakes. You can't get involved, though. Best to let them figure it out on their own over time.

Sounds like it's his fault for loading his E90 M3 with all that garbage, not the car.

Well he ended up going with a fully loaded 1M so not sure what the difference is. Personally I like my daily driver's being loaded up. At track/autox events I can easily turn them off. If I wanted a light-weight track car I wouldn't have gotten the M3 and I wouldn't get a 1M either.

In all seriousness, stripper M3 or fully loaded doesn't really matter much. It is a heavy car either way.

Alas, I did land a fully-loaded 1M by virtue of circumstance. One dropped in my lap on a dealership showroom floor. I couldn't just let it go. I put it to fate as being the one I was destined to own.

Although, it wasn't a stripper as I was originally looking for, it was nice to jump right in and hit the start button with Comfort Access and have all of the bells and whistles that I have grown accustomed to in my M3.

I don't have any regrets on the specs on my M3, it was what I wanted at the time. And now it just isn't what I want anymore. If I couldn't land the 1M, I would have certainly gone for another M3 with 6MT.

Ultimately, the switch to manual is the most significant change with which I am very happy.

You need to do a comparison writeup at some point (once you've had enough seat time). For what it's worth, everyone has said the MT in the 1M is much better than in the M3. I've driven the 1M once and it seemed nice, but didn't get to drive the car hard or long enough to make up a solid opinion.

I wouldn't be able to do a 6MT vs 6MT comparison as my M3 had DCT. But I will say that driving the 1M for a short while revealed a great gear box and clutch dynamic. I just can't tell you how it compares to the M3.

I meant a review of the general driving dynamics between each car, creature comforts, etc. Do you miss EDC? The seats? Engine sound? What about the difference in the way each car makes power? Which do you prefer?

I've already formed my own opinions, but it's always interesting to hear other's.

There's actually quite a few people who sold their M3 for the 1M. They just never posted about it here.

I love the car too. Just not sure it's worth getting rid of an E9x M3 for one. If I'm going to switch cars I'd want it to be a fairly significant upgrade.

Thread should be titled

"Just got neutered!"

Just playing.

Honestly, except for the size a car with that much bottom end torque would be better for daily commute. + the MPG's

I think the M3 is too big. the 1M is a perfect size for a coupe. Not sure how the 1 series looks like a chick car (maybe the 128i without the M sports package). It has a mean bulldog stance. If anything, the E92 is a chick car with it's elegant/sleek look.

The chick-iest car in the current BMW lineup is the Z4

I like the 1m, but not enough to trade my m3 for it, since it has the same engine as my iS, but I'd make the switch if the 1m had a v8
