Change is good, if difficult. Check in often and I also look forward to the comparison threads.

In the meantime, an ode to the S65:

Nice write-up.

Never say never - E9xM could be in the cards for u years from now.

In the meantime lots of good blue colors to choose from in the G80 including Portimao Blue.

Just to be clear, you preferred the Michelin to the Conti? And the Conti lasted almost 9 years?

Lol - the Contis lasted maybe 9k miles - add up flat tires and such and I must have changed each wheel 3 times before the Michelins.

That's why I waited so long to change, I could never get the axles to match up wear wise, and I had a wheel warranty that would give me a free replacement tire. Finally last year I changed them all at once.

I remember very clearly, the dealer had an IB E90 in stock, but I wanted the coupe. Now, I see E90s and think "yea, I could do that..", so maybe!

As for blues, they make so good ones, but I might ask if I can get individual interlagos again, though they refused the color on F80s. Not sure yet!

I appreciate your exit post, the time you took to write it, to put your thoughts in line and to properly end an era in your life. I read it and it may sound silly but cars are part of our life, we use them means for transportation and in this case, for fun too. It is inevitable that they create memories and a bond in us.

Change is difficult and as humans we are sometimes resist it.

Good luck searching your next best car!!!

It is indeed why I named my photography business Machines with Souls. I think they all become more than just an assemblage of metal
And wiring.

Great read. I hope to own mine for 9 years, my 2013 E93....but that's highly doubtful since I take trips in mine every chance I get. I have 2 other cars, and I'll likely average about 25,000 miles/year in my E93 alone. And those are just sunny day miles (I don't drive it in the rain and such). Hey, I love driving so....

And I live in the DC area with loads of traffic, and terrible winter-damaged roads...but I still get in and drive it all the time, throughout the winter (sans any salt or brine or precipitation on the road).

Whenever this M dies - 77,000 miles and counting, quickly, I bought it in late 2017 with 36,000 miles - I know it will have given me endless smiles and pleasure....and I simply can't put a dollar amount on that.

And since I was able to sell a '90 Nissan 300ZX Turbo with 390,000 miles once the engine finally died (still had its original turbos!), and then just sold my heavily-modified 2001 Lexus GS430 with 330,000 miles (car still running with its original engine), maybe I'll get lucky in the M too once the time comes.
