IPhone 4 and Idrive bluetooth problems
Hi,
Having problems pairing my Iphone 4 (Firmware 4.1)with my Beemas Idrive, just had the car taken to the latest IDrive software by a main dealer, and still although i can see the phone to pair to, its always un-successful. The main dealer did say that although IPhone 4 was on there supported list, that it would depend on the firmware loaded on the IPhone, so just gonna downgrade phone to 4.01 (easier said than done) and see what happens :-( Anyone else had issues like this ? |

iphone 4 incompatable with earlier M3's
I have a '09 M3 and it will not work with any iPhone 4 software version. This has been confirmed with the dealer and BMW customer service. It does apparently work with the '11 and I'm not sure about the '10.
I've been calling customer service regarding this issue since July 2010 when I got the phone and just gotten a run around. Today I called the office of the president of BMW of NA, Jim O'Donnell, and I got the same answer which is that someday it may be compatible. They say that they can't be responsible to make every phone work. This isn't every phone, it's the worlds most popular phone!!! What a bunch of crap!!! BMW apparently is only interested enticing new customers with promises of functionality but beware that it is short lived. Quote:

Any further word on 09 M3's and the iPhone 4. I just got an 09 M3 a few weeks ago. When I first got it I could play songs off the iPhone via the hookup in the center console, however, it behaved quite oddly. Didn't display albums correctly (songs in wrong order, all songs by artist displayed for each album, playing songs in alphabetical order instead of album order, etc.). I asked the dealer to fix the iPod connection. They did some kind of update at the dealership which made some subtle changes to the the iDrive menu. Now when I go into external devices it won't even recognize the iPhone. It gets stuck on reading and sits there indefinitely. I had software version 4.1 and am currently in the process of updating. I tried my daughter's iPod touch with recently updated software and behaves perfectly.
Is there any hope that I can get this working properly. If build date matters I think mine was made in April '09 |

11.5 E92 and I've used iPhone since January with the latest updates including iOS 4.3.5. I use the bluetooth telephone regularly, I don't use the bluetooth music that often.

Wow...
Should have checked here first. I have '09 E92 using iPhone 3G (not 3GS) and no issue with bluetooth or cradle for phone, and full functionality with music. Switching to iPhone 4 next week, am I screwed? I was told that the iPhone 4 cradle currently will only work for phone functions, no music. SA said to expect a newer cradle some time before the end of the year, to do both phone and music functions. Never occured to me to look at bluetooth compatibility. (Currently, if I'm just within 5' of my car and my phone rings, my car will pick it up - which has it's difficulties too!). Thanks in advance for feedback.

Talked to my SA last week. He said new Firmware out from Apple alleviates the issue. Sure enough, activated my iPhone 4 got in the car and it worked fine. Bluetooth works flawlessly, uploaded contacts, clear calls, etc. No issues.
