bmw driving school
I received a post card in the mail from BMW inviting myself and one guest to attend the BMW driving school at their expense since I purchased my car in 2008. Is it worth the experience? I wonder why I’m just getting this offer.

It is worth it. Best mod you can make to your car: the driver.

If you have a spare weekend, it's a lot of fun. Check out the PCD threads.
"What? You want me to flog an M5 around the track? Well, OKAY!"

I don't think it's worth it from LA/OC. You pay for a plane ticket (and hotel room I think) and burn a weekend in a place you would not normally go visit for a one day event where you do follow the leader most of the time.
Or you pay $525 for a TWO day event at AutoClub Speedway with IN CAR INSTRUCTION with the BMWCCA in May. I sleep in my own bed each night and have dinner with my kids each night. If there is not track close by, then I'd consider it.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

it's worth every traveling cost you have to pay to get there. i attended the school last month, hands down the best driving school experience i have had, and i have been to a few. they teach you a lot, and they get very serious
they don't have weekend ones iirc, it's always weekdays. and i am surprised, you got your car in 08 and NOW you receive the invitation?! after more than a year?? i got my car on 12/31/08 and i got my invitation last feb btw, you will drive m3, m5, and m6, all of them

and i don't know if you have been to m school. not necessarily in car instruction, but it's not follow the leader neither (which i agree is a waste most of the time). they got multi instructions around the course with walkie telling each individual exactly what's right and wrong and what to improve

I've been to the 2 day M school. Definitely worth the time. I probably wouldn't bother with the 1 day school other than the fact that it's free, and a guest is included, so I'm going to take my son. He's never been to anything like this, so he'll get a kick out of it. And he might learn something. Last edited by MysticBlue; 04-09-2010 at 05:55 PM.. |

If you can get inexpensive tickets I can't see how you can go wrong. I am sure they will attempt to sell you other driving school events but even that will be a good education of what is offered. Sounds like fun and a learning experience. For them they get to introduce you more courses and BMW gets to keep you a happy customer ready to buy a new M3 iin 2013. |

I received the same offer in the mail a week or so ago. You were eligible if you took delivery of your car between September and the end of the year 2008. I took delivery in September of '08 and never used the school. So they sent me the offer again this month.

Did the 2 day school, and it's well worth the airfare (and that's all you pay). And you may want to see about upgrading to the 2 day school. A few of the people in my class had bought M3's, and upgraded fromt eh 1 to 2 day school. Then you get to play on the big 1.3mi road course, and get a BMW ///M helmet also

Definitely worth it. Did it last month, had a great time and learned a lot about M3 handling characteristics (and I have done MANY previous driver training courses with BMW in Europe), as well as spanking M5s and M6s...and..... a really good final demo run by an instructor, showing you how it can be done.

Don't miss this opportunity. You get to drive BMW's M cars as hard as you want and not worry about a thing. The staff are ex-racers or have extensive experience in the motorsprt industry. I've been to countless track events and still came away with an appreciation for the school. My only regret is not extending to the two-day.

If its the M school go, if its a 1 day regular driving school go only if airfare is cheap. Its fun, I did the 2 day regular school a few years ago and want to go to the M school.
