I don't really track my cars so buying new isn't an issue. For the little bit of times I'm beating around town racing ricers its fine. Just hard for me to pull the trigger on a new ride

I'm over 50 and have yet to buy a new car. I've owned some seriously fun cars, and make enough to buy new (and don't blame anyone for choosing to go that route) but the new car smell thing has never had that much allure for me, and I've found a careful search, and patience, can usually get me an almost perfect match to my options/colors/etc.... desires.

I'll also observe that the CPO warranties that are out there now are almost better for my dollar than an original warranty is, assuming you're going to keep the car out closer to 100K miles, as they're covering the car during their wearout phase. I also like being able to scratch other itches with the leftover savings from letting someone else eat the front end of the depreciation curve.

I understand the points made.
For me:
1- I order less equipped MT cars to keep for years and years
2- so don't care about depreciation
3- I do not trust people to properly maintain by my standards (read: change oil) when scouting used car offerings
4- I keep my cars in pristine condition so don't get new car itch
5- if you carefully select initially, an older m.y. Bimmer will be cool in 10, 15, 20 years
6- especially when I know every inch of its history and I trust my cars with my life (and my family's)

YMMV

PS: there's no such thing as a cheap BMW

I think it comes down to what you value.

I value having a new car, with new car dealership experience. I am willing to pay extra for it.

I have a few friends who love buying used to save money, and friends like myself that buy new. Bikes, guns, cars, etc...

My father also taught me to buy new, but unlike most people making 6 figures, he made 7.

Pardon the dig, but I wonder how insecure some people must be in order to feel the need to advertise their income (real or imagined) on a post.
