Powder Coat OEM 220M Wheels

I found a shop in town that will powder coat the wheels for $140/wheel with the option of low or high gloss black. Most everything black on the car is currently matte and I don't think I'll be changing that anytime soon so I think I'm going to go with the low gloss black.

I've also read some horror stories about powder coated wheels gone wrong but don't remember which forums I was reading at the time. I think it had to do with powder coating the BACK of the wheel?

Any pro's/con's to low vs high gloss black? Also, any gotchas I need to watch out for from your experiences?

My comp wheels are powder coated gloss black with 2 coats of clear on them. I think they look awesome (biased, obviously). The only downside I can share is: keeping them clean is constant work.

Other than that, a competent shop won't damage your wheels with the pc process.

Those wheels look great. Is it more work keeping them clean than stock? Or because they are high gloss?

In my opinion yes, they seem more difficult than OEM because the gloss black shows the dust way more than the silver finish. If I don't use Hyde's when I do a maintenance wash then my wheels are bright orange within 1 mile.

It's similar to a black car versus other colors. They look awesome when they're clean but they're a lot of work to keep them that way.

Cool. Thanks for the help. I have an appointment scheduled the first week of September to have the work completed.

Fantastic update to your Comp wheels! Whatever additional work to keep them clean appears to be well worth it ...
