I appreciate that. the big deal of it all is the wireless part. Lossless playback has been available for a while via wired connection, but lossless wireless via wireless connection is a huge milestone. Apple doesn’t even list it as being supported in their documentation. So I’m just like

Let me know if you are taking more requests. I have not received my kit yet, but would need one eventually.

I have had more than one person ask what backup camera I am using. I’m using one that was recommended on the carsara thread: the GreenYi camera, option D.

Just got my order in for Mr12Volt! I recently retrofitted a combox so I've pretty much maxed out the functionality of the stock iDrive system. This sounds like the next logical upgrade to improve the tech in these cars and seems like a steal for only $300 with the 20% off they're offering.
Only downside is no delivery until October

I also got in an order for the OEM mic splitter so I'm really looking forward to getting this all setup!

I'm curious about how Mr12Volt handles an OEM backup camera. I followed the thread here to get OEM iDrive integration with an aftermarket camera.

Does Mr12Volt detect this and switch back to the iDrive interface? Is this also affected by the bug where it switches back to AA/Carplay after 20 seconds?

So you have a camera spliced into the quadlok connector as well as an emulator? I would remove all of that and use the RVC input on the CarPlay box. For one, this CarPlay interface is also sort of an emulator in that it taps into and manipulates the canbus line. It’s not really a good idea to have multiple canbus devices spliced in, especially when it’s just not necessary.

Also, the RVC interface on this device has the dynamic steering guidelines. The $3AG emulator route doesn’t have this capability.

Yeah that's probably the way to go. I didn't realize this box gave you dynamic guidelines. Plus it sounds like this would give me the option to add front or side cameras down the line.

Just using Mr12Volt would also definitely make things a lot cleaner. I was starting to wonder how I was going to fit the new box plus the emulator and all that wiring inside the dash.

How about Siri activation? One thing I like about the Carsara box is how well integrated it is. I can press the talk button on the wheel and speak right to siri, just like in my newer car. Is it the same with this box or is there a caveat?

EDIT: Just saw in the other thread that there's currently no support for Siri via the steering wheel button. I'm tempted to try this box out, but that makes it a no-go for me. I make way too much use of voice commands in CarPlay to lose it by removing the Carsara. If there are any developments, discoveries or updates on this, please let us know!

2009550iMSport Do you have surround view cameras in your car? If yes, then the front bumper left/cameras are working well with the camera button? My only fear is, that this feature will not work correctly..

I ordered mine on the last day of the 20% off and thanks to 2009550iMsport for the mic splitter!! Can’t wait to have CarPlay and not use the cheap ass aftermarket Bluetooth!!

On another note, do you really need a high res 1920x1080p rear view cam when the screen itself can’t support it? Also how hard was the install of the rear cam?

Today, I started looking for head units/car play upgrade options for my E92 M3 and found this thread just in time. Submitted my pre-order from Mr12Volt with the 20% off and a few hours later I received my refund. I'm now in for one of these puppies for $303.20! This is a limited time offer that ends tomorrow for anyone else considering this. Hopefully I can get one of the OEM mic splitters too before I receive the unit. Thanks to tdott , 2009550iMSport for taking the plunge with this product and providing all the information for others. God Bless.

I ordered a CIC upgrade off of EBay, the mic splitter and mr12 volt. Originally tried the CarPlay head unit from Andream but couldn't get sound without plugging in the AUX plug. Tried to code it but unsuccessful. Hope this works. It's a huge upgrade and involves time and lots of money. I'm still concerned about OEM look. I saw mr12volt had a ccc upgrade but what would the display be like? Has anyone ever seen Apple CarPlay on a ccc screen?

Sorry for the delay in my responses! I work in healthcare, and as such I don’t have a whole lot of free time except for on my days off.

I have ordered 15 of the OEM mic splitters, 13 of which have been purchased already by you all. For those who have ordered them already, I’m expecting them around September 10th. They’re coming from Hong Kong, and you all know how that goes. If I sell out of them I should be able to order more.

Heads up to international buyers (outside of the US):

If I am shipping yours internationally, I will need $5 extra to cover the costs for international shipping. Call it my American ignorance, but I didn’t even think about non-US buyers when I set all this up. I don’t do this sort of thing normally, nor am I making a profit off of these. I just wanted to help out my E Series Bimmer buds The extra $5 will prevent me from losing my own money when I ship these out to international addresses.

For anyone who hasn’t bought an OEM mic splitter but wants one: They’re $30 for US buyers or $35 for non-US delivery addresses. If you want one, email me at rlitt636@gmail.com and let me know. If I’m sold out, I’ll need to confirm I can get more before I will take a payment for one. It shouldn’t be an issue, though.

Loving Mr12Volt more and more every day it is going to be everything you’ve ever wanted in one of these systems. I have not experienced any glitches or problems whatsoever. This box rocks!

This may very well be addressed in the recent firmware update, or in future firmware updates. I have not updated mine. I contacted the manufacturer and was told I don’t need to update the firmware unless I am experiencing any issues. I don’t use voice control for much anyway, so this hasn’t been an issue for me. There are other ways to prompt Siri. Siri isn’t disabled or anything like that, it’s just that the steering wheel button doesn’t do anything. Like I said, this may be addressed in firmware updates. I’ll reach out to the manufacturer and find out.

For me, this box is all about the sound quality. The improvement is monumental. It’s like going from listening to a song play on the loudspeaker of an iPhone to hearing to an orchestra live in person. Not only is there no distortion caused by aux interference, but the ability to play back lossless quality via wireless connection means you hear all of that glorious detail and clarity that lossy compressions muffle. If you have the individual audio system, this really allows that baby to flex its audio muscle. This is the best my music has ever sounded in my car, from any input source.

Did you get a kit that was pre-coded for your VIN including FSC codes for NAV activation?

I have had 4 BMWs with CCC, and I ended up retrofitting each one with CIC. I never regretted it, even when the cost was much more expensive than it is today. CIC is a much more stable system in just about every single way. It also has the added benefit of making your car feel a decade newer. I wouldn’t mess with the CCC version of this, personally, but that factors in my hatred for CCC. Also, the CCC display is low resolution and wouldn’t look very good with CarPlay, in my opinion. This box is somehow able to make the CIC’s display look to be a higher resolution than it actually is. I am thoroughly impressed.

I know I’ve been hyping this box up like crazy, but i want you all to understand that I am not the type to do that on a whim. This system really is just absolutely amazing. You will not regret it. I have never been this satisfied with any aftermarket part for my car, of any kind.

I think the video quality of the camera speaks for itself. Option D isn’t 1920x1080p, it’s 1280x720p with a fisheye 170° lens. That where it says 1080p was part of the name of the advertisement that I copied and pasted from the AliExpress app. Sorry, that was a bit misleading. Make sure you select option D!

I have tried 4 different cameras personally, and this is the best one by far. This is the highest resolution you can achieve via an analogue source. It may be a bit higher resolution than the CIC display, but so what? What that means is the only limitation is the CIC’s resolution, and the image coming from the camera will be more than sufficient for the display. Also, this camera has great a nighttime picture. Most of them are garbage in the dark. This one isn’t all that bad.

Also, it’s cheap. Half the price of another one I tried that was rubbish.

Option D. 👌
