It is my understanding that you are not looking to track the car. Therefore, I can tell you that from 70mph and above, the M3 is a quicker car.

I was at the track yesterday and ran with several modded 335i's both automatic and 6 mt. There were several 135's and 335's with downpipes, intakes, tune's, and exhausts running slower times than me.

I have a 6mt e92 m3 w/ full exhaust, tune, pulley kit, and drop-in filter.

I agree that M3's are not 1/4 mile track cars but if you are looking for 40 or 60 rolls then the M3 is the faster car.

I pulled two cars on a GTR from a 40-120 roll from second.

You will not be disappointed! The M3 is a whole other class of a car!

The CTS-V and C63 are great cars, and they have a slightly different focus than the M3. No one is really better than the other, it's just a question of what best fits your needs. Even though you love how the M3 looks, feels, etc., you will just be disappointed, given your intended purposes.

I hear the new C63 has much improved handling, go search for info recently posted by gthal, who is trading his M3 for a C63 for business purposes, I find him pretty objective and non-biased. Personally, I find the C63 AMG looks pretty badass as well.

their still trapping 2-3 mph lower then a LCI 550 with a dinan tune.

Go to youtube and check out some vids bro. Iam still in my 335i and cant wait to get an M3. I was FBO with meth pushing 450wtq and i still dont care thats not what iam after in the M3.

Its the V8 grunt, the handling, the precision, the pride in driving it. Not trap speeds.

Ya its fun to know whatever EVo,STI, mustang pulls up next to you in the 335 that you will spank it. Its also gatta be fun when every eye on the road is attracted to your M3 and give you a every time you hit the gas.

Btw ive seen FBO m3's do 117mph in the quarter. Intake, tune, exhaust on average i would say 115mph traps.

I think if the OP is in NYC and does not often get the chance to run the motor out to 8400 rpm where the power lies, a car with substantial low end torque would be more enjoyable. Might not be as fast from 6000 to 8000 rpm and might not even run to 8000rpm, but the power is right there, now, with now waiting and no downshift needed.

I'd be looking at CTS-V, newer turbo 550i with tune, 335i with tune, Mustang 5.0 (mods are plentiful and inexpensive compared to those for BMWs), C63, etc.

If you don't want to go to the track, you essentially care more about straight-line speed than handling as you can't really push any car hard on public roads.

So if you want true straight line performance at a bargain, get a motorcycle.

You ran a that time with a 1.936 60 ft. time...you run 1.80s with the D/Rs and you are in the 11.7 range if not better. I know Drew ran a 11.88 @118mph, don't know of anyone who has bettered him yet. Could be you...

I think the c63 is the best option. Fully bolt on will get you near your 335i

I still don't understand all these people talking about torque and how it means so much? torque doesn't mean shit around the corners of the track nor the street. And if you think you need it, try gripping on the street because its not likely going to happen.

There is a reason why the M3 doesn't have much torque but there is also a reason why it beats the torque turbo car every time on the ring.
