Rupes Coarse Wool Pad - Kills Swirls Fast!
Rupes Blue Coarse Wool Pads - Kills Swirls Fast
So a few months back Rupes announced their new wool pads, the blue coarse wool pad and the yellow medium wool pad. On this post I would like to talk specifically about the new blue coarse wool pad. At first glance when you open the bag and you touch and feel the pad it resembles a microfiber pad, the coarse wool pads are short "haired" which is not like your traditional wool pad. I was never a fan of the traditional wool pads, probably because I could never finish it down well. I am however a fan of microfiber pads, Meguiar's and the Uro MF. I didn't expect much of the wool pads but figured I would give it a try using them with Rupes Zehpir Gloss Compound and Rupes Keramik Gloss Polish (figuring Rupes would have done extensive testing with their own products ensuring best results.) Using the Compound and Polish from Rupes we got some incredible results! In some cases we could get down to an 80-85 percent finish with the wool pad! The only down side to the compounds and polishes from Rupes would be dust, that being said in extensive paint corrections we always dust and rinse off prior to the final step. Here are a few photos of a Porsche 911 GT2RS that we just prepped for paint protection film. Here are the defects on the hood, light scratches and scuffs, were easily taken care of with the Rupes LHR15 MKII on speed 3.5 - 4 with Rupes Keramik primed on the pad with a drop of Rupes Zehpir. Paint defects on the Porsche 911 GT2RS Hood Paint Defects on the Porsche 911 GT2RS Rupes LHR15 MKII and the Rupes Blue Coarse Wool Pad Final shot after just the only using the Rupes Coarse Wool Pad and Zephir and Keramik A BMW X3 - that came for some restoration for its new owner Before After using only the Rupes Blue Coarse Wool Pad We have found that we have been much more productive using the Rupes Blue Coarse Wool Pad in our paint corrections offerings. We are seeing 20-30% savings in time. Results are quicker and cleaner. We have found the Rupes Zephir and Keramik a great choice as well as Meg's M101 and M205! These seem to cake up less than some of the others we have tested. Whether you are a pro or diyer these Rupes Blue Coarse Wool Pads will make your paint correction life much easier. What Rupes says: RUPES BigFoot Blue Coarse Wool Polishing Pads are the ideal choice when removing paint defects and refinishing a variety of finishes including factory-applied, refinish, hard, and soft paints. I don't have a rupes polisher but I'm excited again transitioning to a griot's polisher and finally almost getting paint correction results with lesser products and cutting my usual detailing time. I've never ventured into wool pads, now I can't wait to try this on my black SUV. Here's my first time finally getting the results I want on my E90 this weekend. Wish I had a close up pic readily available. And how long the results last in PNW rains
-griots polisher with their fast correcting cream -sonax prolifine on top (2 layers) -cquartz r3eload as the final layer (1 layer) *I'll upload later, iPhone xs sucks uploading pics |

Curious if this will work well on an old school Portal Cable DA orbital?
I just attempted a paint correction using Megs 105 on an MF pad followed by Sonac Perfect finish on a yellow foam pad. It got rid of all the swirls however I am still getting RIDS under certain angles of light. This is on German VW paint (my wife’s car) that I am practicing on before I do my M3. |

I doubt the PC has enough power to effectively move the pad. The Rupes has a lot of torque and a long throw (15mm) that the PC doesn't have (I have both).
My concern with the wool pads is they are super aggressive, which means quick to work, which in the hands of an amateur like me means burned through paint. Practice on your beater car first!

The PC + megs MF pads + megs 105 got rid of 1/2 the rids. I'll probably eventually pick up a Rupes 15mm or Adams 15mm swirl killer. + 12mm swirl killer (for the curves) |

I've used MF pads with the Rupes and they work well.
