For those with base M3s...

Do you guys catch a lot of grief for having a base M3? I just picked up an '11 AW Coupe with literally no options - no EDC, DCT, M-Drive (it is a pre-Sep production) and from reading through this and other forums, it seems that it is almost frowned upon to have an M3 as such. I can't get enough of this car, but some of these people almost have me 2nd guessing my decision, lol.

I came from a pretty much stripped Porche 911, and never found this kind of environment in the Porche community.

I feel like loaded M3's are frowned upon more than strippers. That tends to be the norm for performance-oriented cars. I love the thought of a base M3, but in the end I love my creature comforts in a daily driver. Respect to those that go without them.

The only useful options to me is power seats and i drive. All the other options i can get aftermarket with much lower price including leather seats.

As long as you have that lovely 4.0L V8 motor I think you are good to go.

grief from who? nobody really knows (or cares) what an m3 is, much less what options it has (or doesn't have). mine's stripped and wouldn't have it any other way.

Anyone who would say such a thing is the type of person who buys an M3 mainly for the status, and spends life looking down on others for having less.

A no-option M3 is the best breed of M3, and will be worth the most in the future. Wait 10 years and see how cool people are going to think an ugly and antiquated I-Drive display/interface is. No one is going to look back and "value" low-tech and likely issue plagued first generation adjustable suspensions and dual clutch transmissions. M-drive just has people pay extra money so they can press a single button to "unlock" their sports car's full potential at their whim.

There's nothing "wrong" with people choosing these options. It's their money and their choice. Just realize that while they may add temporary luxury/convenience value to some people, they add no (or even negative) value to the car in the long term.

I think that a cars driver should love the car for what it is and not what other people think of the car. I LOVE my car as is. Its MY car. There are many people that talk crap about it, but there are only a few opinions that matter to me: my family and mine. My 6yr old son has a lot of say in my car purchases... other wise:

Going heavy on the option list is a waste of money, especially when the M3 comes standard with some nice things.

On the second hand market, after some years, the difference between a fully loaded M3 and a lightly loaded one is at best 2-3K euro for similar age and mileage cars, while at new the difference can be 20k euro.

The E9# M3 is more a GT car than a race car, so for me options have their place. Here in the UK we don't get the option not to have idrive, but that suits me. I like my cars to have tech, but each to their own.

Some people have a tendency to belittle others choices in order to feel more comfortable about their own. Don't worry about it. Just enjoy your car.

I got a base coupe 6MT and besides Foxwood, and carbon fiber trim it has no other options. I don't have to worry about any software updates or EDC issues. I do like the swiftness of DCT, I would probably opt for it if I were to do it all over again. Other than that I'm perfectly satisfied although I did install a Dynavin Navigation/DVD system and ZCP shifter.

as long as you got the s65 under you bonnet you'll be just fine its like feeling bad if you didnt have zcp which obviously is going to make little to no difference in most driving situations
