I just had my front bumper replaced and repainted for $1600 at a BMW certified collision center.

The paint was chipped to hell so for me it made sense. I'm not at all worried about the future owners of my car. When (if?) the time comes to sell, if they don't like the fact it's been repainted they can move along to the next car for sale. For me, I'd rather buy a car with a nicely resprayed front end vs. one completely trashed with rock chips... who would want that just to say 'it's all original paint!' ? I guess some would.

Your car, you do what will make you happy.
Agreed, and there's always going to be a buyer for a mint car, even resprayed.

For mine, I fully intend on getting the front end resprayed like you did as well as rockers and then PPF.

It's not a 6m dollar Ferrari, and even if it was I would prefer a mint condition resprayed car than a totally trashed original car. I recently saw a 275GTB for sale with a caption along the lines of: ''Totally original interior with patina, original paint throughout'' - Which i would translate to: ''completely fucked 1964 leather seats, fully stone chipped paint that's falling apart at the slightest touch''.

I'd have no issue with a front bumper / hood being resprayed as long as its the original car color, I think most car enthusiasts understand resprays aren't out of the ordinary due to rock chips and such. I had rock chips on my front bumper and had it resprayed a few years ago, I believe I paid around $1300 here in San Diego.

Seriously though, I had several estimates from reputable shops in my area, and the front bumper work was $1400-$1800 at every single one of them. This included filling the reflector holes. If a shop quoted me $500 I'd be super leery... materials alone are several hundred.

And as mentioned in my initial post, prices will obviously vary by location and choice of shop.
I didn't know the owner but it was a couple of years ago so maybe the price would be higher now. Not Maaco, in fact they they work on a lot of high end cars. Its the same shop that refinished my CF roof and that came out really good and was only $1500.
I still say $5300 is too much but I guess that depends on your location...

Replaced as in they installed a new OEM bumper? What is the cost for just the bumper?

Greetings,

Wasn't there some guy in or around the East Coast area that had a BMW individual paint color, repainted with a new color?

I think last year or the year before was on the forums. Full glass out, all seals, everything. I think it was $8600??

I could use the search function, but nah...why bother

Cheers,
Merlin

Obviously cost will vary greatly depending on geographic location and shop, but I paid roughly $5300 OTD in the greater Seattle area at a shop with really good reviews. I'd met a fellow forum member at a local meet who had paintwork done at this same shop, that's how I found out about them.

Another $1600 or so to PPF all the above mentioned panels/mirror caps. So pretty expensive, but I have no intention to sell, and I'm happy with how it turned out.
What shop did the work? I'm actually planning on getting the same work + PPF done to mine in the future.

Just document the before and after with pictures and video. Buyers are often weary of paint work because they think it might indicate there was an accident. Documentation of before and after should prove otherwise.

Those of you thinking of getting ppf make sure you wait an appropriate amount of time before ppf. The paint and clear needs to offgas first. You don't want the ppf to pull up the paint if you ever take it off in the future.

Short answer…..yes a respray might be unappealing to someone but are you gonna lose 5-10k on the sale? No fucking way! Enjoy the car and do what you want with it but don’t cut corners and you will be a ok when you sell. And I’m curious, how would anyone know I’ve painted my car with no accidents and a good paint job. Just have your shop paint appropriately. No spray on fender mounting area, remove all window seals and replace them. Lastly in another 5-10 years when my or your car is still in great shape do you think that new fucker in love with your car will not buy it when you tell them it’s been repainted? If your car isn’t a rare spec with low miles the new buyer will try to knock down the cost anyway. Do what makes you happy with your car.
Facts.
Additionally, 4 of 10 2011-2013 M3's on cargurus have reported accidents. We rip these things, and need paint! Make your shine
