2008 E90 M3 AW, Slicktop, 6-Speed For Sale

I'm regrettably selling my M3 to fund other pursuits. It has been, bar none, the best car I've owned and I will likely get back into one someday. The car is in excellent shape, especially for a 13-year-old, 142K mile car. Located northside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The title is clean and the lien will be paid off this week.

Asking $23.9K, as it is a little rarer being a AW/BLK, slicktop, manual, E90, and it really is in excellent condition and has been well cared for. As the market is kind of all over the place, and I'm really not sure where to price it, the price is not firm. I may be listing it on Bring a Trailer as well.

In the 4 years I have owned the car, I have only had 3 issues: I had to replace both throttle actuators, coolant thermostat, and as of right now the Aux port in the center armrest does not work. Everything else was simply consumables or preventative maintenance.

I spent several months looking for an E90 M3, slicktop, manual, when this came along. Like many of you may be, I was initially put off by the number of previous owners the car had (6), as I usually don't like being more than the second or third owner of any vehicle. However, the car seemed clean and well taken care of so I decided to go and check it out. Upon arrival, I was shocked at how clean the car was considering it had 109,xxx miles on the ODO at the time. The car looked amazing and drove even better. My reasoning for buying the car was that if even one of those owners didn't treat the car well, it wouldn't be in its current condition, so I decided to go for it. It has turned out to be one of the best purchases I have ever made.

Throttle Valve Actuators (TVA): Done @ 116K miles

Rod Bearings... The car is still on the original rod bearings. My reasoning for this is simple: The copper/lead style bearing in the 08's would show up in oil analysis reports. The oil analysis came back with copper and lead levels below what Blackstone typically sees on healthy engines with half the oil mileage intervals. The second oil analysis after my first track day with the car backed up the first.

This engine is healthy, with zero signs of rod-bearing wear. At this point, if the bearings haven't begun to wear, they likely never will (unless the next owner enjoys doing burnouts with a cold engine, for example) The car has only been driven a handful of times when the temps drop below freezing, I never lug the engine or excessively accelerate when the oil is still cold, and I changed the oil often. These were things I was judicious about, as despite my confidence in the bearings, I still had "the fear".

I see lots of talk about the clutches in these, no issues whatsoever with mine and if you look at the history, the car was predominately a highway commuter so I would not be concerned about the clutch.

Has the car ever been tracked?
Yes, like it was intended. However, I have only done 3 HPDE's with the car and it performed flawlessly every time, it then drove me home comfortably.

The Car:
2008 E90 M3
142,4xx Miles
VIN: WBSVA93588E215244
4/03/2008 Build Date
Alpine White
6-Speed Manual
Slicktop
Navigation
Black Leather Interior

Paint Condition:
There are small rock chips in the front bumper, along with a few on the hood that were touched up at some point. Paint is probably an 8/10, given the rock chips, but in really great condition everywhere else. There is 1 small dent on the trunk lid, that I only notice at certain angles.

*The car had some rear bumper damage earlier in its life. No frame damage or anything. Guessing the bumper was replaced, but you would never know it.*

I forgot to mention that the air-bag recall was performed in 2019 and I also have a folder with maintenance receipts performed from previous owners. Thanks.

I think the price is fair and anyone seriously in the market for one of these cars would recognize that.

I'd probably remove the front splitter and sell separately - may appeal to some, but the general audience would likely prefer a stock exterior.

GLWS. The car will sell itself

Accepted Offer - Buyer picks up in 2 weeks. In the interest of full disclosure, and an alert to those that use carfax, a different interested buyer pulled the current carfax which had new information on it that my previous two carfaxes did not. I'm now learning this can happen.

The accident reported above in my documentation on 6/20/2011, didn't show up on the carfax the previous owner pulled before he bought it in May of 2016. In fact, it didn't even show an accident occurred at all in June of 2011 (see attachment).

When I purchased the car in 2017, as my vehicle history states, the carfax now reported: 6/20/2011- "Damage reported - Damage to left rear."
6 Years later....

The current carfax pulled yesterday, now states "Severe Damage to the left Rear" for 6/20/2011.

So it went from No Damage, to Damage, to Severe Damage over the span of 6-10 years.

I wonder if Carfax has changed its criteria in the past 4 years as to what constitutes "severe" damage?

Anyways, I can't see any signs of a repair, so I guess the repair was quite good. Buyer is aware.

I want to applaud the OP, he was more than honest with me and transparent in the situation. It was an unfortunate circumstance and it seems as though Carfax kinda screwed him. beautiful car, honest owner

Congrats on the sale! Carfax is the best resource at showing the ownership history (how many owners, miles driven), but it's only as good as it's data sources AT THE TIME when reporting accident damages.

When one of their data resources reports new accident or body work or repair data based on the VIN number, it gets updated in their database and will then show up on more recent versions of the Carfax specific to the VIN. Unfortunately as you have seen, the new data can be updated the next day or take years.

To your point on what is considered "severe" or not for Carfax depends on the new data and if it provides enough support to update the classification to "severe".

For me, I never rely only on the Carfax report, I always combine it with a PPI, preferably at a shop which knows BMW's before I make a final decision on the car.

Happened to me before with the very first car I bought myself. Not surprised at all.

My assumption is this (as it also happened to me with the car I traded in lol) - as long as the insurance case is open nothing gets reported to carfax. Once Allstate closed my case, carfax showed the entire accident on carfax. But that was 3 years after I got rid of it...

Good question, he never moved it to sold status, but hasn't been back on forum since summer, so it's most likely gone
