For me, its either 4.5k - 6k miles, or every half a year whichever comes first. I love doing oil changes =D I always look forward to changing it that usually i change it too often too.

As one person said previously, short oil change interval might be a waste of money and oil (especially those who do oil changes based on analysis), but it is also a cheap peace of mind, so i totally dont mind doing it more often than not. Cheers

I change it every 7.5k miles. I think that's reasonable.

Blackstone will tell you how long to go. For me they recommend 9.5k

For the first 4 years, BMW did it once a year, which averages out to 8k. Since then I have done it about once a year, which probably also averages out to 8k. I don't track the car.

I think BMW's original 15k mile intervals were probably too long. I also think 5k is probably too short.

I'll do every 7500-8000 or one year. Whatever comes first.

Just got mine changed today. My fellas used Liquimoly in preference to Castrol. I've heard from 3 separate BMW service agents that Liquimoly is the best oil to use. I was strongly advised to ignore the car's service alert for engine oil changes and stick to 10,000km intervals.

I changed it whenever the CBS tells me to or once a year. Whichever is sooner.

Oil Change

I purchased a 2011 M3 E93 with 72K miles on it. Had an oil change at BMW just about two months ago and about 4500 miles later. I like to drive the car. I received a message yesterday indicating that I need to add a liter of oil. I found this strange that this would be required so soon.

Is this normal or should I begin to think that something is wrong with the car?

adding 1L @ 4500 miles is not out of the ordinary. instead of adding oil, i tend to change my oil around 3500-4000 miles. Being as how i drive my car only about 4k miles a year, this equates to 1 oil change per year, and im more than happy with that interval.

I did mine at just about 1k. I changed it because it was 1.5 years since last oil change. Tells you how much I drive. They gave me back the original filter in a bag. The oil was still super clean.

I wont' make that mistake again. Waste of money. I just thought it wasn't a good idea to go that long even with the low miles.

If you burn 1L every 1000 miles and add new oil, could you change just the filter and extend the oil change interval?

Every 5k miles. I don't burn any oil after adding Liquimoly MOS2 at ever oil change.
